It's time for summer!

The last post was getting as long and unmanageable as Jake's beard. Mercifully, both are in the past.

This weekend marks the unofficial beginning of summer, so let's hit the sun and sand.

The cold weather will be here fore we know it...

... might as well enjoy the view while we can!

(Post shamelessly cribbed, with slight alterations, from a previous GB entry.)

  1. One the Hangover producers talks about his involvement with the California prison system:

MJ: Who else from Hollywood have you gotten involved in this?

SB: I have guest speakers coming into juvenile hall virtually every week, so there are tons of writers and directors and filmmakers contributing. My lawyer, a former DA who used to send these kids to prison, is now a teacher at InsideOUT Writers. Jake Gyllenhaal, when he was doing research for Brothers, reached out to me—I didn't know him—he was going to play an ex-con. I brought him into Sylmar and over to Men's Central Jail and out to Lancaster Prison all in one weekend. He really bonded with the kids and stayed in touch with many of them and has come back to juvenile hall many times and has really been selfless in his help and his dedication. He's probably stepped up the most.

That is pretty cool to hear. And the dedication this producer has to the cause is really admirable.

Melanie Laurent still thinks An Enemy is coming out in August:

The baby, whose sex she did not reveal, is due in September, Melanie confirmed to French publication La Nouvelle République.
The actress told the magazine she will not have a lot of time free as her movie An Enemy with Jake Gyllenhaal and Isabella Rossellini due out in late August.

And in case people missed it from the last post, the Prisoners trailer has been certified, indicating it might be out soon. Thanks for the info, Monica!

  2. Hi UV, is so good to see that beautiful face again!

About what U said: "How annoying are you finding the word recognition?..."
I can tell you that to me is great, in fact, it was necessary. Isn´t. Your blog is AWESOME.

Have a wonderful weekend to everyone!

  4. I almost didn't recognize him, it's great to see him cycling around NY !

I remember reading about Jake's involvement with that writing program when he was filming Brothers. How wonderful that he is still involved in the program.

  5. It's nice that young people who probably have been written off by many in soceity have people in their lives who are willing to invest time in them. Famous or non famous, it's an amazing show of kindness. And kudos for those who have not exploited their acts of kindness as so many in Hollywood do.

And to be shallow; damn that's a handsome man. He's so gorgeous that it hurts. Without his beard his face is more chiseled and it seems to make his entire body seem more buff. I guess the beard takes the eye off that incredible body.

    ReplyDelete
  6. You're not being shallow, Scott!
He's just a beautiful man, and I'm loving this pictures, too. I can remember seeing so many of these for the first time thinking he couldn't get any better, and it's so obvious that he is aging very well. Because he is perfection. :)
    OK. enough gushing.

UV thanks once again for finding something unique and newsworthy about how Jake spends his time. I remember him talking about the prison writing program, and how he got one of the young men a small part in one of his movies, I think. It's wonderful to know he's still very involved.

BTW: Omen is a small Asian/Japanese/Sushi restaurant on Thompson near Prince street in SoHo in NYC.

  7. Just wanted to add that I was really moved by the interview with Scott Budnick, the producer of Hangover. He's a pretty special guy, too, and it's great the he and Jake are working together with those young people.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Thanks Bobbyanna to explain what "Omen" is. I try google it but did not help so much.:-)

    ReplyDelete
  9. Thanks for the kind words, Lara :)

i meant to put the producer's name in my post. I agree, Bobbyanna, chica and Scott. It's very impressive of Budnick. I was glad to hear him say Jake has continued to follow through, also.

The American prison system is a depressing disaster. Kudos to people trying to make it better.

LikeMonaLisa, I don't think we can know why Jake shaved. let's just enjoy it while we can :)

Jake should get off the sidewalk.

  11. LOL at the FB post, UV.

Not only is it against the law, it has to be inconvenient trying to get across each street, too. Riding thru Prospect Park in BK, or Central Park in Manhattan, or even riding across the Brooklyn Bridge has to be pretty cool, though.

Lara, when it's possible, I like to discover Jake's restaurant "recommendations." : ) So far I've been to Bubby's, Eataly, ABC Kitchen and two or three others over the years.

  14. "So far I've been to Bubby's, Eataly, ABC Kitchen and two or three others over the years. "

Hi Bobbyanna, can you tell me which them do you prefer?
I used to travel a lot, special in my 20's. But i never have been in EUA, One day I want to see New York and besides all the beatiful things to see I wish to do a "gastronomy food travel" and enjoy as many as possible all the wonderful restaurants.
    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  15. Lara they are all very different.

Eataly is an amazing sort of grocery store specializing in Italian foods, and you can go to the counter and order prepared foods and eat there...if you can ever find a table.

Bubby's is very good for breakfast. I've been to Sant Ambroeus in the West Village, and Katz Deli, too.

So far my favorite is ABC Kitchen. I went with some good friends and had a wonderful meal even if there was no Jake sighting. : )

The man who spotted Jake today tweeted from All Good Things in Tribeca a few hours ago, and he described it as a "mini version of Ferry Plaza in San Francisco." So I will assume that's where he saw Jake at lunch. Never been there.

Between Jake & Yelp it's not hard to find good restaurants in NYC and not all of them are expensive. : )

  16. I liked the beard. but he looks good here.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I don't mind the beard, either, Monica. Just wasn't crazy about the white patch. I don't like to carp, because it's Jake's life and face.

But the beard-lovers have had their time for most of the past year, so it's nice to have a change of face.

Really, he should just always have stubble and make most of us happy.

ABC Kitchen is amazing. Once I went, I realized why Jake spends so much time there. Bubby's is good, too. As is Odeon. All yummy.

    ReplyDelete
  18. He looks more than good, he looks beautiful. Is it so hard to admit it? Jake has a beautiful face and the beard hides it. Even with cap and shades when he shaves you can still see his perfect profile, beautiful mouth and cheekbones.

    ReplyDelete
  19. It's not hard to admit anything. It's personal preference. One of the reasons I hate to comment on this is that some people who don't like the beard carp about it endlessly. And it's clear Jake prefers not to shave, so I don't understand the point of whining about it.

    ReplyDelete
  20. My coment wasn't addressed to you UltraViolet. It was for Monica who can't admit Jake looks more than just good.
I'm not complaining about the beard, just saying the beard covers what is a very beautiful face.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Jake's face: First, thanks for picking and keeping a name. But it's not up to you to decide if Monica's opinion is justifiable or not. It's her opinion. She liked the beard. She said he looks good here. Not much to argue with.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Kiwi, maybe he cut himself shaving :)

  25. Hi guys! Sorry I have not been able to comment much. With school, moving to a new apartment , and keeping up with life in general. I watched broke back mountain a couple of nights ago and what a beautiful story. Being a new Jake fan I know why you guys love him so much. I do have a question for you guys. The movie bubble boy is it a movie I should watch or one I should pass? Any ways I hope each one of you have a nice memorial weekend! And thank you for letting me comment on this site.

  26. "The movie bubble boy is it a movie I should watch or one I should pass? "

Watch that movie, better yet buy it from Amazon cheap. People don't talk about that movie as a cult classic but it is in my opinion. It's so funny and silly the way it's meant to be. And besides Jake there are a lot of other good actors in the movie. It's over the top and hilarious, I think problem with it that people want to see Jake as this serious actor because he needs to be so that his good looks do not overshadow his good looks.

There is a picture from UV's last post of Jake as Bubble Boy from me to Maria. He has no facial hair and the hair itself is before it's time.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It nice to see that gorgeous face again, sans the beard. I'm glad he's enjoying some time on his bike. When does filming start on Mississippi grind?

  34. This guy, who is apparently a Spanish film blogger, seems to think we'll see the Prisoners trailer next week.

I forgot this from a earlier in the week, in a review of Only God forgives. It's apropos of nothing, but it made me laugh:

Visually, the film is so static that it could be presented as a PowerPoint slide show.

Some other old news items I keep forgetting to post. Jake at Carbone's in early May:

And while industry peeps held most of the tables in the main dining room, Jake Gyllenhaal also wandered out from the back room a couple of times -- in case there was any remaining doubt that Carbone is the current place to see and be seen.

A podcast with a local Canadian actor who was in An Enemy. they ask him about Jake, who he says is great to work with. It's at the beginning. And it's not very exciting.

    ReplyDelete
  35. When does filming start on Mississippi grind?

MG filming scheduled to begin in the summer.

Just saw this in a johnny depp forum:
I was in attendance the other night at an event with Stephen Sondheim and he, at least, confirmed Johnny's participation in Into the Woods as the wolf. He said rehearsals were to begin this summer with filming to begin this fall in London as mentioned here earlier.

  37. If you haven't seen all the EoW deleted scenes, this is a funny clip from one.

Today was miserable and cold in Boston, so it was a movie day for me. Just finished Magic Mike, which was nowhere near as good as all those critics said. Props to Channing for getting it made, but yawn.

I also watched a movie called People Like Us, with Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks. Not a great movie, but not bad, either. The kind of movie I wish Jake had made more of, not in terms of quality as much as story. It's a small movie, but character driven. And great screen time for Pine, if you're a CP fan.

I also watched Source Code, which reminded me of this:

Actor Cas Anvar Answers Your Questions
“What was the funniest thing that ever happened to you while filming, recording, or acting, etc?”

Cas: So many, …but one was when shooting Source Code – Jake Gyllenhaal played a practical joke on me when we doing our scene and was hanging from the roof like a monkey in the bathroom of the train, so when I walked in ( during a take!) I had to try really hard to not crack…and said something like …’well um …I didnt realize this was occupied sir… pardon me…’ lol

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well, where should I start, first loved this new post, it reminds me of summer, that last photo makes me smile every time I look at jake´s shorts!!
The clip is funny ,UV. Always nice to see more of what we like. I´ve never seen bubble boy and now at 37 I don't think I will.
Getting very confused with the release date of AN Enemy, on IMDB there's a 12 September date for Russia???

  39. The weather is crappy in my neck of the woods too but these pics of Jake sure has brighten my day!

Yes it is illegal to bike on the sidewalks in NY, bad Jake!
I saw Magic Mike whem it came out and didn't understand all the hoopla UV. It was just. ok IMO.

Hope everyone has a safe Memorial Day.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I had a similar reaction when I saw Magic Mike. Meh. UV, when I saw People Like Us recently, I kept imagining Jake in the Chris Pines role, too! I do that a lot. : ) Chris comes across in interviews as a nice, likeable guy. So does Channing Tatum, but neither one has 1/10th the talent Jake has.

Since the Detroit Tigers moved into first place, (eye roll) I watched The Natural. Again. I often 'see' Jake in many of the roles Robert Redford has done. Except for The Natural. Redford owns it. : )

Weather's on the cool side, but it gets into the 60's during the day and we'll have another brilliantly sunny day, today. I hope everyone is enjoying the Memorial Day Weekend.

Looks like Gatsby's dropping like a stone in box office returns. With Fast & Furious 6 leading, there is really nothing at the movies I want to see right now. Nada.

I'd love to think it means something that they say "An Enemy" will be released later this year, but then I remember all the times people throw Nailed into stories.

From Us/See what celebs did this week:

--Jake Gyllenhaal grabbing some juice at One Lucky Duck in NYC.

Thanks, everyone for posting the photo and the article. Maybe hagen will turn up tomorrow with the trailer for An Enemy!

  105. UV, you know what they say, children don´t lie!! I'm just bummed that here we have to wait until tomorrow to see the trailer, or stay up until dawn...not fair!

Hi, tweety, nice to see you!

Monica, thanks for that link and for your words to Sofia, we are the only ones that already knew each other faces :)

  106. I was pleasantly surprised that the USA Today story wasn't overly Jackman-focused. We'll see how it goes from here.

Someone tweeted the Prisoners website earlier, but it redirects to Warner Brothers. You can see that it's there, lurking: prisonersmovie.com

  108. Better.Indie Wire starts with Jake's other movie,An Enemy and calls Hugh Jackman the co-star of Prisoners:

First up is "Prisoners," one of two movies on the way Jake Gyllenhaal has made with "Incendies" filmmaker Denis Villeneuve (the other is "An Enemy"). Co-starring Hugh Jackman, Paul Dano, Melissa Leo and Viola Davis.

UltraViolet: I promised to keep the name for the blog.

  109. I know but people often don't do what they say they will. So I wanted to acknowledge it. Thank you.

Don't think I'll make it home before ET so I look forward to reports.

  110. You're welcome UltraViolet. I'm curious about the trailer too. Hope Jake has as many scenes as Jackman.
