  3. Hi, Bobbyanna, Tweety and Monica!

I saw Gatsby yesterday. Wasn't impressed. Subpar acting from almost everyone, Leo excepted.

The 3D made it worse, I think. And hearing Jake read the story so soon before seeing the movie just heightened Tobey's deficiencies and the flaws of the film.

That said, it's nice to see a non-superhero movie make a bang at the box office.

  5. Hi everyone! It's been a long time since I've posted here, but I read something in Friday's USA Today that I thought was interesting. It's an interview with Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan and Leo DiCaprio, and the interview seems quite recent. Okay, here's what caught my attention. The writer asks Tobey about not ever having read Gatsby before he filmed the movie. Tobey's answer (in part):

"It wasn't homework...... I had to do roughly 25 voice-over sessions, and Baz and I talked about doing an audio recording of the book. But I don't think either one of us has time to do that."

Maybe I am totally misreading his comment, but it just struck me as a passive/aggressive, subtle dig at Jake. Like he's saying, "I had the first shot at an audio reading, and you're clearly second choice.". Makes me wonder if he's a bit insecure about being compared to Jake?

I won't be seeing Gatsby, so I'll never know if Tobey was miscast. I'm not a fan of Luhrman's work. His sensory overload style is suffocating to me.

Hope all my old GB friends are well! Good to "talk" to you again.

  7. Hi, Suvee. I like the work of Baz in Romeo and Juliet and Moulin Rouge. But I can see why many people dislike.
I don't know if I'm going to see TGG at the cinema or if I'll wait for the bluray.

As for what Tobey, I interpreted as "I'm too busy and Jake have free time." But maybe you're right about the comparisons.

    ReplyDelete
  8. busy in what? Everybody knows he's got the role because he's Leo's best friend-

  10. Suvee! So good to "see" you, I miss your comments!
I'm not. a fan of Baz either so I will be skipping his 3D GG extravaganza. Interesting quote from Tobey in that USA article, kind of a fig at Jake IMO.

    Thanks for your review UV!

    Happy Mothers Day!

  11. Suvee! I hope you've been well. We miss you around here. I wondered if you'd gotten to see or at least hear about Jake's role on stage last fall. I know you always hoped he'd play a different role, and Terry in If There Is... was certainly that.

It does sound like a dig. Hard to say for sure. I don't think there's any bad blood there, but maybe Tobey is sick of the comparisons?

It's more noteworthy - and embarrassing - that he'd never read the book. Did he do the movie and still not read the book? That's shameful.

  14. Hi, UV! I am fine, and hope you are as well. You were very much in my thoughts during the horrific Boston Marathon bombing. What a nightmare!

I had the same reaction as you.... Tobey had never read Gatsby?! Good grief! But yes, he actually read it before filming.

Yes, I have read that Jake was very good in his off Broadway play. I hope he continues to expand his range in movies.
I saw that Andrew Garfield was cast in the new Scorsese film. Now that's a role I could very much see as a good fit for Jake. Probably not a block buster movie, but it's a Scorsese film= prestige.

Hi to chica and Monica! And FP, nice to meet you, too!

  15. Hey, Suvee!!!! So good to "see" you!

Before Gatsby,Isaw Romeo & Juliet, and Strictly, Ballroom, which was unintentionally funny. Hated Moulin Rouge and couldn't get thru it. Saw Gatsby in 2D not 3D, and I enjoyed it for what it was, a fantasy.

As for Tobey's comments, I don't think he meant to slam Jake, altho it could certainly be looked at that way, I guess. I think he was saying "Gatsby" wasn't that important to him either as literature, or from a cultural standpoint. He was making a movie. He sounds as detached from his material in that interview, as he was from his character in the film.

He hasn't seemed particularly excited about the project and it shows. With all this promotional stuff going on, Tobey barely shows up. Has he even done anything worthwhile since Seabiscuit & Cider House?

Bobbyanna Tobey also did the movie -Brothers-that was pretty good.
But then that actor who reads-The Great Gatsby- so damn good totally eclipsed him so...

Just Joking:) I like Tobey, mostly because brothers is one of my favorite Jake's movie :)!

  25. Maybe Jake went to Cannes anyway? "An Enemy" could be a surprise screening, just a positive thought so don't shoot it down with negativity.

    ReplyDelete
  26. He may have gone to a friend's birthday or a friend's wedding, photoshoot ...

    ReplyDelete
  27. I was wondering if he'd go to Cannes for the Film Market, too Scott. He's one of the producers of Nightcrawlers, so maybe the company that's trying to set up distributors thinks his presence would be helpful. But you don't fly a helicopter from NYC to Cannes. LOL! I guess you could take a helicopter from one airport to another. : ) I think some of other possibilities that monica just mentioned are more likely. I guess we'll know soon enough.; )

    ReplyDelete
  28. Lara : )Aww-thanks but unfortunately I'm not that sharp! The other day, for example, the girl who was talking to Jake at the Met Ball, it seemed Tay to me! Fortunately it was not her! LOL! : )

Lara Do you remember that episode of House where someone tells House "please do not go away," and he says "I am not Jake Gyllenhaal"?: )LOL!

Hope everyone enjoyed their Mothers day, I was lucky enough to spend a few dsys with my Mom.

Saw The Great Gatsby sans the 3D . It was noisy and overblown and Leo and Carey had zeto chemistry. Tobey wss a snoozefest. On the plus side the cinematography was dazzling as were the costumes and the soundtrack was fun.

Love the Mommy theme post UV and I'm so happy you dropped by Suvee, miss you!

I thought that An Enemy had a US distributor:(

I forgot that Jake is a producer gor Nightcrawler

  32. Hi FP, when I first saw that girl with Jake I thougt that was Tay too, I had a panic attack. But in the end was another girl. :-)

About Dr. House, I remember he had a "fight" with Dr.Foreman (When Foreman was his boss). Dr.House said: I quit. and Foreman said: you can´t quit. So House said: I think you're confusing me with Jake Gyllenhaal. Was so cool!

    Have a great day everyone.

  33. Scott i can understand why you are so annoying, I´m too. What i can see about Gosling movie (How to Catch a Monster) prodution is from EUA and an Enemy is Canada/Spain. I believe that in EUA it´s could be hard to find somebody to be interesting in a foreign prodution. But it´s just a tought. I just can hope that will soon find a solution.

  34. Scot is annoyed with good reason, not annoying.

  35. You know, I have no idea how it's arranged, but from time to time, I read that a particular actor has signed a development deal with a major studio. The deal allows the actor to develop, including producing, directing, possibly writing, etc. his own projects.

I think Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds, and Ryan Gosling might have this kind of arrangement. I'm not sure. It is not open-ended. It is for a specific period of time, maybe a three year, or a five year contract.

As I said, I don't know how these things are arranged, but I do recall reading about actors who have signed development deals, and being surprised at who gets these deals because some of them have "thin" resumes.

I don't know if it's something Jake would desire or not,or if it's something he's working toward. But it certainly helps to have a major studio working with you before you even have something to sell.

I think Ryan's project sold for $3Million in Cannes.

    ReplyDelete
  36. In encouraging/discouraging news, An Enemy will apparently be screened for sale at Cannes:

PathΓ© International’s team headed by Muriel Sauzay will also have a considerable number of post-production titles to work on for pre-sales with, amongst others, Jacky in Women’s Kingdom by Riad Sattouf (article), Attila Marcel by Sylvain Chomet (article), The Mark of the Angels – Miserere by Sylvain White (news), Superchondriac by Dany Boon, Philomena by Stephen Frears (news), Beauty and the Beast by Christophe Gans (news) and the Canadian-Spanish thriller An Enemy by Denis Villeneuve.

Another surprising omission is the latest from “Incendies” director Denis Villeneuve. Many predicted his new psychological thriller “An Enemy” was a shoe in for Cannes this year – especially with an international cast that includes Jake Gyllenhal, Sarah Gadon, Isabella Rossellini, and Melanie Laurent - but for whatever reason the Toronto-shot film was not included as part of the lineup.
However, these films will still be present at Cannes. Both Dolan and Villeneuve’s films will likely screen outside of competition at the festival’s thriving and ever-growing film distribution market.

    ReplyDelete
  37. To clarify: Bradley Cooper signed a development deal with Warner Bros and Ryan Reynolds has a TV development deal with NBC Universal which he will develop TV series for them.

Ryan's following in the footsteps of Sandra Bullock and George Lopez who each developed hit TV series for TV. Sandra wasn't on TV she produced, but Lopez starred in his own show.

Haven't found anything to indicated Ryan Gosling has a deal with any studio. The $3M isn't much $$$ but his movie is very low budget so this will cover the production costs, and the marketing and distribution costs will be passed on to others.

I always think of "March of the Penguins," a very low cost documentary that sold in Toronto at TIFF for about $2Million. The distributors than hired Morgan Freeman to narrate, cleaned up the documentary a tiny bit, and put a musical score to it. The rest is history. It made millions & millions. : )

  38. LOl...oh well I have been called "annoying" before. That was too funny Lara, made me laugh and yes I know you meant no harm.

While I am quite annoyed by what I feel is the lack of respect for Jake's talent, Jake does not seem bothered by the business he is in maybe because he's been around it all his life or it's his Zen like personality of the last 2 or 3 years.

Anyway, I hope Jake say no. I'd love to see Jake in a big movie, but it's too early. He has to keep doing what he's doing.

  46. Jake's name comes up over the years when they talk about a comic book hero franchise. Spiderman, Batman, Green Lantern, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Justice League, it's not new.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yes, I know that anon. But this news is coming from a person who writes comic books (Marvel??), so he must know something and this and seems to be recent. Recalling that Jake was seen at a hotel in Malibu when he was filming Prisones. As he was only for a day or two, I believe it was for work.

  51. Good detective work Monica. Jake is in LA hmmm, it's becoming rather mysterious. A helicopter to LA? But don't they have that health food organic (make you go to the bathroom) juice in LA? Why did Jake bring his own?

Now if we could just find out the identity of the people with Jake? Hmm maybe that other movie Land of the Lost or something completely new? Jake really should consult with his fans first.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I hate to be supportive of 7:55pm but in the last week or two there has been article on twitter and the internet about HW actors that were "almost" comic heroes on the big screen and what ifs.

Monica Jake is 32 going on 33, so I think in a year or two it may be his time but I hope it's not a comic hero but some other thinking hero franchise (original if possible). Jake is way too handsome to be hidden by a costume and he can act. No offense to other actors.

If deals close, Gyllenhaal and Pine would play their first on-screen singing roles.

Sources say that Gyllenhaal and Pine would play the musical’s two princes, Cinderella’s Prince and Rapunzel’s Prince, brothers who are pompous and self-absorbed.

If deals close, Gyllenhaal and Pine would play their first on-screen singing roles.
Into the Woods is a darkly comic mash-up of classic fairy tales that revolves around a childless baker and his wife, who attempt to lift a family curse by journeying into the woods to confront the witch that put the spell on them. Along the way, they encounter a group of characters including Rapunzel, Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood.

Streep will play the plum role of the vain and charismatic Witch while Depp will play a hungry and sexy variation of a fairy tale wolf.

Sources say that Gyllenhaal and Pine would play the musical’s two princes, Cinderella’s Prince and Rapunzel’s Prince, brothers who are pompous and self-absorbed.

A fall production start is being eyed. The project is expected to attract more big names. John DeLuca is producing.

  59. Mary, Johnny Depp is currently filming Transcendence, and he will still work in another movie after this. I think this musical will begin filming in the end of this year.

  63. Ok, I'm not a fan of Rob Marshall. Catherine was the only good thing in Chicago and I didn't like Nine.
And not like when I read that he was going to direct this musical.
But I do not know, Johnny is the leader and it seems more like a movie for the summer.
Jake in a big movie that will call attention!!!

Here a video of the musical.

  65. Definitely nice to see Jake's name associated with a big movie. The big Jake fan on the Broadway World message board wanted Jake to play the Baker. But I think a Broadway actor got that part.

He had a positive reaction to this rumor, too :)

Hot Tub Time Machine? I'll try to withhold judgment.

    ReplyDelete
  66. FP, the office of MGM is in Los Angeles.

    ReplyDelete
  67. "He had a positive reaction to this rumor, too "

Chris and Jake singing together is hot as heck, and they both can sing although most do not know this? But they could just stand there and I would gladly pay. But I am still reluctant to get too excited about this as Jake fans have not had great luck with Jake sticking with a high profile part or a high profile part sticking with Jake.

If that hot tub movie rumor is true, I have no doubt Jake would take the role as he is probably a fan and likes improv. Filming on In the Woods begins in Sept 2013, tenative that is according to one of the Broadway sites.

    ReplyDelete
  68. FP, what i saw from his FB page yes he is from LA.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Here's another version of Agony, apparently the song Jake and Chris would sing.

I'm so jealous that Pine has not one but two franchises. It escapes reason that jake hasn't managed to make it into a franchise yet. All of the superhero roles seem ridiculous at this point. Antman?

I don't know what to think, but I'm happy to see Jake continuing to diversify.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I won't comment on Chris Pine because I like him and he has had to fight for roles because of Star Trek boxing him in, believe me he fought hard for Jack Reacher but it's been done before and too similar to Bourne.

Batwing would be great for Jake if he must be comic hero, Batwing is the prodigy of Batman and leader of international crime fighting not a sidekick like Robin.

    ReplyDelete
  71. UV, Brad would not allow Jake or any actor better looking than him in the same movie again, not since Tom Cruise. Clooney and he have too big egos. Good for David Ayers and Michael Pena though but it sounds a bit like that IG movie doesn't it?

  80. Re:Fury: I knew Ayer won/t cast Jake. He used Jake's name for End of Watch promotion. It did very well for a 7 mil $ movie. During the premiere Ayer didn't show much respect to Jake's talent. After, he didn't talk at all about Jake. Jake put his heart in the movie, did everything for it >> another actor colects the benefits. Not the first time for Jake.

    ReplyDelete
  81. 8:59am, you might be right anon but I remember Jake fighting for the EOW part, he had to read and auditioned for a $7 million dollar film. I however beleive that if Ayers felt Jake was right for a role he would have given it to him, Pitt is the leading man in this film. I think if there is any slight it's not coming from Ayers but maybe the lead and the studio itself. To be honest, it would bug me for Jake to play second fiddle to Pitt, and it bugs that Pena will play second fiddle to Pitt.

The lead must be a dumb character because Pitt does that well.

  82. The lead must be a dumb character because Pitt does that well.

  83. Anon, 8:59, I thought Jake and Ayer got along fine. I picked up no animosity between them. I just can't buy into some conjecture that Ayer didn't give Jake respect, etc.

I'm glad Ayer's working with Pena again. Who knows which stars in the universe lined up that allowed Pena to take that role, and who'd fault any director that has a chance to work with Brad Pitt?

I agree with UV,I'd love to see Jake in Fury or something like it, but I'm not going to assume Jake was rejected for the part, or that Ayer doesn't like him. And the simple truth is that Brad Pitt attracts a lot of financing/distribution to a movie.

Jake is getting "there." I get upset too when I see announcements of film projects that sound cool and Jake isn't part of them.

I'm glad he switched agencies to WME. The poor guy lost a lot of time with CAA mishandling him. He will find his footing, I absolutely believe he will. (I hate CAA. )

    ReplyDelete
  84. and who'd fault any director that has a chance to work with Brad Pitt?

This is my thought. It is an opportunity to Ayer work with a big star and gaining visibility not only in the U.S. but worldwide. But that doesn't mean he didn't want to work with Jake.
And John Lesher, a friend of Jake, is also one of the producers.

You know, Jake is well. He's got so many projects and who knows how many more to come with this sighting at MGM and a possible reunion on Marvel.

True Story: Last night while I was bartending Jake Gyllenhaal was staring at me, I asked him if he needed anything and he said " I was just admiring your cup" I replied "Yours aint too bad either" and then he pointed out that he was referring to my actual copper mug. BTW The role was mediocre.

Jake, please, stay away from these films.

  97. No, no hawkeye. AntMman is looking pretty good actually after reading about the character. The Ant Man created the Avengers.

  98. Jake could play villian, which would be awesome.

  99. LOL at the cup story. Good to see Jake right back in the CZ in LA!

Speaking of CZs, I think qualifies for Jake in SFO. Not sure if this is a mistaken sighting or if he went to SFO on the way to LA:

From my secret restaurant source -- dining in San Francisco this week:

Oh, and Jake Gylenhaal dined at Locanda. He enjoyed the Jewish-style artichokes, the bucatini all’amatriciana, the burrata cuscini with crawfish, and the bavette steak. My spy said he also toasted with a glass of Pievalta Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi.

Not sure what to think about the Renner thing. I recall reading that he didn't have much to do in the movie. As annoying as I find these superhero flicks, they generate a lot of publicity and good will for the actors.

    ReplyDelete
  100. UV, he doesn't do anything interesting in the film.
I'm not blame Renner, but who wrote the character. Renner himself publicly complained about the character.
I hope Jake doesn't go to these movies. He can do better.

SF? Maybe he went to the Edible Schoolyard.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Maybe yes, Edible Schoolyard and also maybe he has friends there?

    ReplyDelete
  102. For me the important thing is that Jake is vying for roles so important. Also I think he can and should do better, but it's nice to know that he is up there among the top choices of HW

Today I met jake gyllenhaal. He was looking rough. Yet a charming nice guy.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Im a bit latw but a very cautious Yippeee! And unlike the Damn Yankees rumors, this is legit.

I dont know about Chris but Jake has a great singing voice. He will be very busy this year !

    ReplyDelete
  120. Why IS Jake "looking rough" ? It takes him 5 minutes to grow out his beard, so he really doesn't need it "for work" like he's always saying. His hair is too long and he looks homeless. He seems to run away from his looks and that's a shame.

    ReplyDelete
  121. no need to worry, he'll start shooting 1, 2, 3 movies - so he'll look like a prince literally.

on his off time - let him be.

    ReplyDelete
  122. I really don't understand this homeless look either. He started looking like this after end of watch, why why? Such a shame.

    ReplyDelete
  123. "I really don't understand this homeless look either. He started looking like this after end of watch, why why? Such a shame"

Uh no, Jake had huge facial hair before EOW. I was talking about his eyes but as it was pointed out it was the camera lights. I was not freaked out by his outer appearance but the look in his eyes. There is nothing wrong with homeless people except unfortunate circumstances that can happen to anyone and anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Yes, but Jake's looks are an asset just like his talent. He needs both. There's a lot of talented actors who look awful and are unlucky. Jake is lucky, as well as good looking, and talented, and he needs to own all his assets. I love Jake, but I'm not going to pretend I'm happy with the way he presents himself lately. A beard is fine if it is groomed.

    ReplyDelete
  125. "Anon 7:03 said..."

Are you kidding? Jake looks better on a bad day than most actors do at the Oscars. I am pretty sure movie studios, directors and producers know that Jake can clean up well. He's not a model but an actor. Alot of actors don't look Oscar ready on their time off. It's about you and how you think Jake should look. Sure I prefer Jake in a tux with no shirt 24/7 but that is not going to happen, Jake has grown in many ways in the last few years. Seeing a man kill/die in front of you changes your priorities. I take him at his word that changed him apparently in more ways than one.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Hi everybody,
This film adaptation of Into The Woods have an impressive cast, I imagine working with Meryl is a big honour, she is a legend. And sure worth the singing challenge. I’ve heard Jake singing before, It was Saturday Night Live. It was the year of Dreamgirls, a year after Brokeback Mountain it was funny and cool that guy can sing. And Chris, well he can sing too, but I really don´t even care if this two singing or not I will pay the ticket anyway. And by the way Chris is a better HOT brother then Tobey.
Here is Chris Pine singing, What you think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gd_W9ONihDQ

    ReplyDelete
  127. I'm not criticizing how Jake dresses, and I don't need to see him in a tux, or shirtless, but I'm entitled to say I personally don't care for this wild, untrimmed beard, and the greasy, long-hair version of Jake. I love Jake to pieces. He's a beautiful person, and I wish good things for him. We just have different opinions.

    ReplyDelete
  128. People might take your opinion more seriously if you chose a name. It amazes me that people post here anonymously and assume people won't question them.

Not that I think Scott was even doing that - it's just a difference of opinion.

But when someone comes in to post only that they hate the way Jake currently looks, you can't blame us for thinking, basically, "Who cares?"

    ReplyDelete
  129. No problem! I don't like this hollywood version of the regular guy: greasy hair, baseball cap and wild beard. He could do so much better. Besides that he is a great actor and seems to be a nice person.

  131. Hi everyone, tomorrow is the National Day of Norway. Among us, the day is referred to simply as syttende mai (meaning May Seventeenth).
Will be a long day start with big family breakfest, after we go to a children's parades and marching bands (this is a non-military nature event), after going to Coffee shops to talk with friends, dinner, ice cream, and after more parade, it´s all day long.
When I come back home I´m at last 5 kilos heavier and exhausted, but very happy. In special occasion we wear traditional outfits, called BUNAD.
You can see some Bunad photos here they are in diferent colors and style that tell where in Norway you come from: http://oslonights.no/2010/05/18/norwegian-constitution-day-17-05-10/

I did discover the DVD of Into the Woods with the original Broadway cast on Amazon. You can rent it to watch for $2.99 online, if you're interested. I might do that...after Jake is confirmed. : )

    from-HR
Like Jake Gyllenhaal and Chris Pine, the "Looper" star is very close to joining Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep in the live-action musical.

Emily Blunt is the latest A-list name said to be nearing a deal to join Disney's big-budget adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods, sources close to the production have confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
    our editor recommends
Chris Pine, Jake Gyllenhaal Circling Musical 'Into the Woods' (Exclusive)
Johnny Depp to Star in Disney Musical 'Into the Woods'

If the deal closes, the Looper star would join Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep, already confirmed for the roles of the Wolf and the Witch. The live-action adaptation is being helmed by Rob Marshall.

Also said to be near a deal are Jake Gyllenhaal and Chris Pine, who would play Cinderella's Prince and Rapunzel's Prince.

    ReplyDelete
  144. FP, Scott is saying that she received the offer to join the cast, while Jake and Chris did an audition with the director. I think now is in the hands of Jake's agent (and maybe director) to convince the producers that he is ideal for the role.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Thanks FP. Unfortunately HR has been wrong before about other close deals.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Scott is saying that she received the offer to join the cast

We don't know if it is in this way
may she did all the audition-

And in this case it is right to do audition because it seems a complex role where you have to show particular skills that go beyond the mere recitation

Ms. Baranski can really sing and has been on Broadway, film and TV. So at least it sounds as if they are trying to create a well rounded cast.

We chatted for about 10 minutes then I walked back inside w Jake he hit the stage and I went back to my seat it was great. Jake was really nice and really cute.

I think it would be inspiring casting he and Emily as the Baker and his wife. The baken and his wife should not be HW glamour, so maybe Emily is a miscast?

    ReplyDelete
  184. I should have said I mostly agree. I do think Jake looks pretty grungy but as Monica said, he's going to the gym.

Most people seem to prefer Jake without the full beard but Jake seems to prefer it, so we have to get used to it and not moan about it every time there is a photo. Or at least not make it the only thing we talk about.

To that end: Did anyone notice that there will be a sneak peek of Prisoners tomorrow, as I posted above? Fingers crossed for some good reactions.

  186. Ryan Gosling seems to be drawn to your neck of the woods, Bobbyanna :)

Sarah Gadon is in Italian Vogue. I think this covers everything about An Enemy. Had to transcribe, translate and then clean up, so be gentle:

::::She will play a pregnant woman, costarring in an erotic-existential thriller based on a novel by Nobel Prize winner Jose Saramago. "An Enemy reflects on the differences between the ideal image that people have of themselves and the reality."

In the film by Canadian director Denis Villeneuve, Gadon had to face her first sex scenes in front of the camera. Fortunately, in addition an attractive partner like Gyllenhaal, the Toronto actress was able to hide behind the prosthesis she wore to look pregnant: a sort of silicon armor that weighed more than three pounds and covered her entire torso. "Behind the prosthesis, I felt protected. Not having to deal with the image of my naked body made everything much simpler."

Bearing the belly of a woman six months pregnant not only lightened the sex scenes. It also allowed some anticipation for pregnancy, something Gadon hopes to happen soon, although she currently does not have a Prince Charming. The prosthesis was so real that at the end of a day on set, her back and feet hurt, just as if she were really pregnant. There were difference in the way she moved, as well as the way other people related to her.

"I've always associated motherhood with a sense of strength. I didn't expect to also feel vulnerable. Changing the shape of my body changed the way I perceive my femininity. It made me feel more insecure." The experience and was strong enough to cause her to keep the fake belly to compare with the real one, when the time comes.

"I keep it in a closet at home. It's strange to have a memory of an experience I have not yet actually had."

Villeneuve's film should be presented in one of the big film festivals international this year (Gadon hopes it will be shown in Venice). ::::

I'd love to see it in Venice, as well. Toronto seems more likely, sadly.

    ReplyDelete
  187. "an erotic existential thriller"

    sigh.

Fine translation, UV. You got the important words right. : )

    It is 80+ degrees here.

Actually, I think Ryan Gosling is pretty close to his family by shooting here, because they are somewhere around London, Ontario, in Canada, I think. That's about a 2.5 hr drive.

    ReplyDelete
  188. I have to agree too! It's great that he has so much work these days, loved end of watch. But the rough hipster look dissapoints me.

    ReplyDelete
  189. Thanks for your efforts to translate the text, UV.

"An Enemy" reflects on the differences between the ideal image that people have of themselves and the reality.

I really hope Denis Villeneuve will manage to get that across in the movie. It won't be easy.

I'd love to see it in Venice, as well. Toronto seems more likely, sadly.

I'd be fine with TIFF, though it seems to be the biggest film festival. I get the impression that many films that are screened there are largely ignored by the public.

  191. Entertainment Weekly: Although they haven’t cast the lead role yet, Ant-Man is now the only definite part of Marvel’s Phase Three. For the uninitiated, Ant-Man is about a hero with a suit that allows him to miniaturize at will and communicate with insects and other small-but-dangerous creatures.

I'm one of the few people who haven't watched any of the Marvel movies. I think Ant-Man wouldn't be my cup of tea.
