  6. Jessica Chastain looked beautiful. I liked Olivia Spencer's dress, too. Anne's dress was kind of plain.

I'm hoping Argo or Lincoln, and I won't be disappointed to see Ang Lee, Haineke, or Spielberg win Best Director. I'm also pulling for Sally Fields. I think De Niro will win Supporting actor. Amour for Best foreign film.

    Check in later.

  15. It was fun to see twitter and FB say they prefer Jake's version of the Dreamgirls song :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. I dunno, I've laughed a lot. I especially loved the Sound of Music bit. The awards themselves are boring and predictable. Would loved to have seen Sally Field take it over Anne.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ang Lee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So happy!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Me too Monica, what a nice surprise!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Glad for Ang Lee that was a nice surpise. I was hoping Lincoln would get best picture but not surpised that Argo got it.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Jennifer Lawrence wan as best actress, seriously!!!!!????? No way.

Congratulations to Daniel Day-Lewis, he was great as Lincoln.

And Anne won a Oscar!!!???, Oh dear Lord! She was annoyind before the oscars. I just do not want to see her after.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Glad Ang won for Life of Pi. Felt bad for Tony Kushner. I think he did a fantastic job of adapting Lincoln.

I haven't seen SLP yet. My daughters said that Jennifer Lawrence was not the most deserving nominee.

Both girls were hoping for eitherd Naomi Watts or Emmanuelle Riva.

There's no reason that show has to be so long. The Capt. Kirk routine went on too long. I admit I enjoyed Charlize Theron's dancing. She's good.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Didn't watch the Oscars, but I'm happy for my fellow countrymen Christopher Waltz and Michael Haneke to get awarded.
It's nice to know that one can achieve big things, even when you come from a very small country.

Can I comment on something from the last post?
First is “Now You See Me” – it’s an action movie. Not a big revolutionary movie about the resistance or something, it’s more like FBI against magicians. Which is fun sometimes to do …

Wasn't Jake in talks for this movie at one point. I wonder if that was the reason he didn't do it. The lack of challenge?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah for Anne. Hopefully she will tone it down and has not created a backlash that will last. People will forget the Oscars in exactly seven days.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Happy for Anne, despite the calculated and rehearsed speech, she deserved to win. It's a great performance that comes from a great year for her.
Bob, Jen was the best in the movie. Every time she appeared, the film grew. Jessica was the best of the five nominated, but ... She'll be back!

Loved the speech of Ben Affleck. So happy that Argo won!

Surely it was one of the worst Oscars I've seen. Nikki Finke's comments were hilarious about it.
It looked a mess. Those songs were boring. The numbers weren't good. Catherine Zeta Jones, what happened? Charlize is beautiful and dance very well, but WTF? Joseph and Daniel Radclife shameful! That final number was bizarre!

    Tina and Amy >>>>>>> Seth

    ReplyDelete
  25. Lawrence and Anne both had great years.

In Jennifer defense (not that she needs it) but SLP was not a once in a lifetime movie or role.

I did not watch the Oscars either, Seth seems so depressing, dark and weird. Not that he is not talented but not Oscar apppropriate. Dark does not always equal edgy.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I thought, with a few exceptions, Seth was unfunny, mean, and I could've done without what passes for "ethnic humor."

You're right monica, Jessica will definitely be back. I think Anne & Jennifer will too.

I don't usually care for the "variety show" approach to the Oscars. So I could've done without most of the live "musical tributes," but I thought the Les Miserables segment was one of the high points of the show. And of course, Adele. : ) I love her.

I'm glad Barbra S. did a tribute to Marvin Hamlisch. Wish we could've seen more achnowledgement of Nora Ephron.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oops. LOL! "bibbyanna. "

    ReplyDelete
  28. Wasn't Jake in talks for this movie at one point. I wonder if that was the reason he didn't do it. The lack of challenge?

Or maybe Jake wasn't particularly interested in a supporting role next to Jesse Eisenberg. Who knows?

    ReplyDelete
  29. "Interesting comments form Melanie Laurent. From all indications, it wasn't a "fun" shoot. But I hope that will translate into a good movie."

Maybe she meant the subject matter was dark making shooting a bitter emotinally draining.

Jake looked so intense on the set of An Enemy unlike the some of the pics of him from the set of Source code.

  31. Seth was hit and miss for me. I can see how some just loathe his type of humor. There was too much of the variety show aspect that you pointed out Bobbyanna and im not a fan either but I loved Shirley and Babs!

DDL, Anne and Lee were my favorite wins of the night, they deserved their wins!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hi babblers, it's been a while since my last comment, I miss you, exchanging opinions about Jake and other things. I've been trying to update on Jake news here in GB and on Monica's Gyllenhaalics, but i'm still catching up on all the information, I have literally no time on my hands, my husband went to work in Norway and I stayed in Portugal with the children, but I'll do my best to keep coming here.

On the oscar, I was so glad for Ang, Anne and Argo, I've only saw a portion of the oscars but it was quite boring, so i went to sleep. Bit disappointed on Anne's dress, loved Naomi Watts, it was different.

Couldn't agree more with bobbyanna, Jake does know how to work a tux and that year he co-presented with Rachel, they looked so good together!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hi Paula! Wow, that must be tough, to have your husband in another country. Good luck to you. We'll be here when you can sneak away!

I wasn't much of a fan of MacFarlane. He had some jokes that hit but a lot of bombs. Similar to my performance in the office Oscar pool!

And a lot of it was just ugly. Not Edgy, just stupid.

    This tweet cracked me up:

Jennifer hudson is nailing this Jake Gylenhall song #Oscars2013

I had to rewatch that today after all the chatter about it.

As sad as it is not to see Jake in a tux/doing the rounds, I'm glad he sat this one out. He probably is too!

(I was hoping he'd turn up in the Jimmy Kimmel Movie, The Movie skit. I thought maybe that was why he had flown to LA last week. But that was not to be.)

  35. I was in no Oscar pool, but on Twitter Hank Azaria (from LAOD) offered to follow anyone who could guess Best picture and Sound Mixing right.

I got lucky on that one!

Now if I can only get him to spill some beans on shooting LAOD, that would be something, right?

Don't really expect it to happen though.

  36. Sasha, that would be amazing, some details on the JAmie curious scene. Have faith!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sasha, that's so cool. What a fun idea. I hope he'll get into the spirit and share a few details.

I guess this is the advantage of filming consecutive movies: You can work on the old one when making the new. From an Atlanta recording studio person:

Jake Gyllenhaal was here yesterday doing ADR on "An Enemy". Cool guy. I can spell his name correctly now, don't ask me next week.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hmmm...ADR = Additional Dialogue Replacement. Dubbing.

    I googled it. : )

  42. I'm late to the Oscar talk! I really like ed Seth hosting because I like that kind of humor. The show did seemed slapped together at times and I waa bummed that they could'nt get Connery and Bronson to partipate in a proper Bond tribute.

I was happy with all the winners except Argo. That should have gone to Pi or Lincoln Imo.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Sorry, I thought people would know ADR.

Here's another post about it, from the FB page of the sound studio, Doppler:

Yesterday we enjoyed a visit from Jake Gyllenhaal for ADR work on upcoming thriller An Enemy as well as Keke Palmer voicing for animated series Winx Club. Imagine the beautiful mocha babies these two would make if they were required to repopulate the planet after some kind of apocalyptic event. I've been thinking about this a lot.

The Bond tribute was pretty lame. I heard that Sean Connery is in poor health these days, but they could have gotten a couple of the other Bonds.

Of course, Sean Connery's reputation as a misogynist would have put him squarely in line with the evening's themes :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Of course, Sean Connery's reputation as a misogynist would have put him squarely in line with the evening's themes :)

But sometimes you need to throw all that political correctness out the window and just have a laugh. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  45. I don't consider it political correctness, so that's where we differ. And I wouldn't say that Seth M delivered on the laughs, in any case.

  56. Seems like Jake got another haircut...

    ReplyDelete
  57. Rachel, no offense but not everyone is going to care for the same celebrities. Why I do not like Justin, I stop hating him a long time ago.

As for the OScars, I do not think anyone was hating but merely expressing their opinions on who won and who should have won in their eyes. As for Seth, he was offensive to some and others found him funny and great. I guess it just depends on if you were a member of one the groups that felt offended.

And hate is that a bad thing, its one step away from love as they say which is why I stop hating Justin. Just no.

Sorry UV if I offended anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  58. For me it's the same haircut. I like to see Jake change the look for the film.

  62. Hi, does anybody know the release date of An Enemy in Portugal or the UK, it's usually the same date for both country's, I've been searching in the Portuguese distributor site and I can´t find any date, which I think is very strange considering the film is based on Saramago book and On Monica's blog there's a release date for Brasil.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I think it has no distributor in Portugal and the UK, Paula.

A member of Nolan fans, who read the script of Prisoners, said that the character of Jake looks like a modern version of Melvin Purvis. And that Jackman's character is more interesting.
I have not read the script, only the introduction of Loki. I realized he has no tattoo.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Paula C!! (waves) So nice to see you! Your husband has quite a commute. :( I know you're missing him. I hope the babies are doing well.

I have searched and found nothing about release dates. (Maybe Hagen will have better luck.) Since Cannes is in May,I am wondering if they will screen it, or simply have a private screening of some footage for potential distributors.

I have a good feeling about Toronto, and TIFF. I think it's a strong possibility that Enemies will show there.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I think An Enemy going to officially debut in Cannes, Bob.

    ReplyDelete
  66. "An Enemy" will be distributed by Lusomundo in Portugal and by Pathé in the UK. But I haven't seen a release date for these countries yet.

There are some movies which premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and have their North American premiere at TIFF, for example "Amour".

    ReplyDelete
  67. I'd love to see it at Cannes for a full premiere. Hope it does. : )
I just wondered if it would be ready since they seem to still be working of ADR and music, etc. Maybe it's just "tweaking."

    ReplyDelete
  68. I just wondered if it would be ready since they seem to still be working of ADR and music, etc.

According to the current sales catalogue of Pathé International "An Enemy" will be delivered in spring 2013 (page 11), so I'm still optimistic for Cannes. The next major film festival would be Venice in August, but that would be too late for the announced release date in France.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I´m also optimistic for Cannes, Hagen! The lack of an actual release date for Portugal is making me crazy.

Bobbyanna, Cannes is still more then two months away , so there's plenty of time for An Enemy to be ready. The Children are doing fine, making my head a mess! Can you believe Sofia is already five months, it seems like it was yesterday, time fly's.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Paula, I can't believe the baby is five months already I hope we hear news about Portugal and Cannes soon.

Also, I wonder how the other Paula is doing. Waves to Paula, if she's out there.

    From FB:

Ok, so I am star struck. At noon, I had to go to a luncheon fora performance. I drive by the filming location, and at the light I see Jake G. standing in front of the fake Conyers Police station with a couple of his crew smoking a cigarette. I can't get my camera fast enough so I rolled down my window and yelled, "Welcome to Georgia, Jake!" He looked up, smiled and gave me a big wave! ARRRGGGHHHHHHH!!! JAKE WAVED AND SMILED AT ME. (FAINT)

    And from twitter:

Did we mention that the beautiful Jake Gyllenhaal is staying at a luxurious hotel in midtown too?

    And this:

  71. Thanksm UV. Sounds like Jake's enjoying himself on location. : )

My youngest daughter reports that she went to the Optimist last week. She said the drinks are great, the atmosphere is fabulous, her food was "...meh," and she sent her dessert back. She went during the week, too, but "saw no one famous." :(

  73. The lack of an actual release date for Portugal is making me crazy.

As Portugal is the most favorable market for "An Enemy", the movie will most likely get a very decent wide release in your home country. So there's no need to get crazy, Paula. :-)

There are some cryptic comments from Indiewire on "Prisoners":

Premature Predictions: The 2014 Best Supporting Actor & Actress Nominees

Maria Bello, Viola Davis or Melissa Leo - "Prisoners"
We're not quite sure what to make of "Prisoners" and its awards prospects: the film has an acclaimed script, a prestigious cast and an Oscar-nominated director in the shape of "Incendies" helmer Denis Villeneuve. But the story -- revolving around the aftermath of a child abduction -- goes to some eyebrow-raising and dark places, closer to "Saw" than "Mystic River," which may make it principally commercial fare. Its best chances are probably in the supporting acterss category, given that it has awards favorites Maria Bello, Viola Davis and Melissa Leo in the cast. It's tough to say too much about the parts -- Bello and Davis play the mothers of two kidnapped girls, and wives to Hugh Jackman and Terence Howard's characters, while Leo plays the aunt of Paul Dano's suspected killer -- without giving the game away, but any of them have the potential to make it in, if Villeneuve pulls the tricky material off.

"Prisoners" will be released in Germany on September 26th, just one week after the U.S. release. In France the movie will premiere on October 9th.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I miss Jake in a tux and on the Red carpet, hopefully we will get to see him next year. I was disappointed when he didn't show for any of the Oscar parties.

Jane Fonda gave Seth hell for his hosting duties, lol!

  87. Real Style Magazine: Next up in Sarah Gadon's non-traditional career is a role in Oscar-nominated French Canadian director Denis Villeneuve's first English-language film, An Enemy, opposite Jake Gyllenhaal, Mélanie Laurent and Isabella Rossellini. The film tells the story of a man, played by Jake, who leaves his mistress to fall back in love with his wife, played by Sarah. Having Jake Gyllenhaal as her third major on-screen husband after Fassbender and Pattinson isn't so bad, I joke. "I only accept rich, famous actors as my husbands," laughs Sarah.

Although cozing up to Fassbender, Pattinson and Gyllenhaal would definitely be a perk to most people, their heartthrob statuses seem irrelevant to Sarah. In fact, she seems more excited for her co-stars to join her in the art-house realm than anything else. When I suggest that Pattinson's work with Cronenberg has helped change the path of his career from teen heart throb to bonafide actor, Sarah agrees. "Yes," she says with a smile. "Now he's going to work with Werner Herzog."

She has a similar sense of excitement for Jake Gyllenhaal. "I had the opportunity to screen a rough cut of the film yesterday, and it's weird!" she says about "An Enemy". "I'm so happy to see Jake back in this genre. He's an incredible actor."

  99. There was one tweet of Jake at the airport tonight, but it was "a friend saw him" kind of thing. Hard ti imagine him passing through an airport or Madison Square Garden with only one tweet.

    LOL at that Obama tweet.

    New post.
