Photo ops

Work has taken over life here at GB - apologies for the lack of posts or topics. Let's let the stage door do the work:

Time's running out on the play and on yet another opportunity to bid to meet Jake backstage. I hope folks bidding know that they have to go soon! The details don't exactly make that clear.

  1. Yes, this is a motley assortment, but I am too tired to do anything but copy and paste/post! Sorry for the clutter, but there are a few gems in there.

Jake looks like he's enjoying these last days of his theater life.

And the play has been getting a lot of great reaction as it winds down:

If there is I haven't found it" was amazing. Jake was fantastic too/he was amazing actually!! A proper actor. And yes, bootiful. Stolen him for you as an Xmas present...you're welcome

    From a FBer:

Didn't think I'dsee a better play after last night, but I was mistaken. Tonight was superb. SO glad I paid full price to see "If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet"!

    He's a good Jewish boy!
    And a bloody amazing actor!
I just saw him on the Graham Norton show. He's single, Tam! Go for it! Xx
we talked... I said I loved the show, he thanked me for coming. Your invite to the wedding will be in the mail next week.

And from a Bettermost poster, who saw the climate issues talkback:

I think Jake's accent was a bit thicker after spending his recent hiatus in London. I really liked Enid Graham as the new Fiona--much more sympathetic, I thought. At Jake's entrance, some older woman exclaimed, "that's him!" LOL

He was very thoughtful in his responses to questions, but said he had to leave soon. Again, I thought, he won't show up after a matinee, the damned vampire!

But I hung out at the stage door anyway in the cold and rain.

Annie Funke (who plays Jake's niece) came out and I thanked her for her performance and got her autograph. Enid breezed out with a wave. I was gonna leave, but hung out anyway.

In a moment, I saw Jake inside the lobby, and my knees literally went weak. OMG!!!
In an instant he came out and because of the cold and rain, there were only a few people.
I threw down my umbrella, found a pen, greeted him, he signed my playbill, and asked for a photo, and voila!
He was warm, looked me right in the eye, and was simply LOVELY.

OK, I can die now! Excuse me, I have to go and die now!

And, on our damn, seven year anniversary!

It was the anniversary of seeing BBM, so a nice way to mark it.

I'll miss these stage door photos!

  2. And two more from FB. The first is referring to Saturday night; the second is from last week, as well:

DROVE Jake Gyllenhaal LAST NIGHT WHAT A NICE GUY

i looove him!! what did he say!

We were talking about the company that I work with and how they kicked him out of a car lol , I drove him 2. Times

I just spent a great day in New York with my daughter Emily, having a wonderful time seeing the sights, shopping, Mama Mia on Broadway and excellent fun at Joe Allen's for dinner. We saw Bobby Canavalle and Jake Gylenhal there too. But the coolest person I saw today was my beautiful daughter. She didn't even mind being seen with me. I'm a very lucky Dad.

  6. Oh, thanks, LikeMonaLisa. That was fun. We haven't seen stage door video in a while. Here's a clickable link in case people can't get it to work.

Jake seemed in a good mood.

    ReplyDelete
  10. UV, U'm sorry you're being slammed, too, but honestly, I can't think of a nicer way to celebrate the successful run of Jake's NYC stage debut, than by posting all these great fan photos!

He looks generally happy and, dare I say, peaceful : )
I hope he decides to do a lot more stage work without the huge gap in between.

    (((mary)))

    ReplyDelete
  11. He and Anna are fantastic, I also hope he decides to do more stage work.

I'm so sorry to hear that news Mary :( :(

    ReplyDelete
  12. Oh, Mary! That is not a good way to mark the season. But the good news is that you won't have to work on the holidays.

Ditto to the call for more stage work for Jake. And more movies. The man doesn't need to rest ;)

LAST CALL FOR JAKE GYLLENHAAL’S STAGE DEBUT
"Screen hunk Jake Gyllenhaal made our dreams come true this season when he made his off-Broadway debut in the dark drama If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet. It’s your last chance to catch Gyllenhaal (or see him again!) in his funny and touching performance as erratic Uncle Terry, who struggles to help his overweight niece fit in at school."

I hope Jake will have a wonderful time tomorrow celebrating his birthday on stage for the first time in his career.
And a nice farewell on Sunday, with the promise to come back on or off-Broadway in a few years.

  15. Thanks for posting that, Laure! I think I had intended to put it in the post. Oops.

And how cool - I hadn't thought of the fact that Jake will be on stage for his birthday.

Also, if I had remembered/realized his birthday was tomorrow, I would have delayed doing a new post. Now I have to come up with a birthday idea! lol

    Jake on the subway.

    ReplyDelete
  16. How great that Jake will celebrate his birthday on stage tomorrow! I wished I could have seen him on stage, sigh.

From the reviews and the reaction from the audience I think that Jake will do more theater.

What awful news Mary, and right around the Holidays.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I forgot to say that I'm glad you'll finally be able to see EoW this week, Hagen!

Thanks, the wait has been long enough. :)

Broadwayworld.com interviewed Jake and the rest of the cast of "If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet."

    ReplyDelete

  18. "Jake on the subway."

I can't read that expression annoyed or you want to have sex?

    Because his eyes are smoldering.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Looks like a "Death stare" to me.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Jake's clothing style is debatable and he looks like a conehead. ;)

I've overlooked that the interview with Broadwayworld had already been posted before.

    ReplyDelete
  21. You're welcome, UV! :D

There's no doubt in my mind you'll come up with an original, unique post for Jake's birthday (that will most certainly require some time and work - sorry!).

Jake's expression in the subway pic is priceless; it needs a caption like "Dude, I'm just hydrating and reading my f...g magazine! Nothing historical here".
Or something funny, like Scott's second guess. ;)

Yes, Jake will be on stage for his birthday - twice; if I'm not mistaken, there are two performances on Wednesday. Talk about a new, exhilarating experience. And if some of his friends and family will be there for the evening show, this anniversary will be one to remember.

Thanks for the interview (and the previous link for Pathe portofolio), Hagen. Enjoy the movie. Hope it will make you laugh, smile, tear up, smile some more, cry maybe, and finally laugh... while still sobbing. It is quite a ride.

  24. Happy Birthday to Jake and a huge thank you, for giving us a wonderful year!

A hugely successful NYC stage debut, and a critically acclaimed movie, opening @ number one at the box office, with his very first (of many more) Producer's credit in the bargain!!

As a fan, I'm grateful too, for the fact that Jake's schedule is filling up with more film projects!

I've loved seeing him participate in charitable events, and all the tweets and fan photos, and generally enjoying life in NYC.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Happy Birthday Jake, looking forward to a new year for you and me both. I am grateful for Jake's success this year and hopefully this is just a leap into an even better year. I am looking forward to the development of Mississippi Grind for some reason that movie intrigues me. I wish Jake would try his hand at directing next year maybe his own development?

If his Mom and Dad can do it, why not Jake? Maybe there will be 3 Gyllenhaal directed films next year.

We need to make two cakes one is in a form of a theater stage, which we must deliver to the theater where he has a show today.

  48. Unless I am missing something, and I don't miss a lot, that conversation between "Hellhouse29" and "Birdieswan89" exists solely in the mind of the person who posted it here. So I don't think anyone has to worry about the secret getting out, since there is no cake.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'm not trusting these cake posts. I think we may be having another "visitation." I'm not saying Jake's mother wouldn't order him a cake, and the descriptions sure sound nice...but something is fishy...IMO : )

Scott, you're right. Famous people in NYC order special foods, etc. all the time. The people who work in those places rarely tweet about surprises. Thye might talk about it after its over, but not before it happens....IMO

We are fans of Jake and we always places these tweets on the site, this site. remember that we often have to bring things that others do not know. like this tweet / fb tweet or Instagram. it is a Privet tweet to his ore her friend / co worker/follower. I think he he reveals something to his colleagues. what is normal. I sometimes tell something what my other colleague know ore finds out another day ore maybe two days later know.

So this person is doing nothing wrong. we find the tweets or FB posts and WE make it public to putt it on this site.

I found this interesting story, with a negative start:

    Sheldon_Koopa 9 points 3 days ago
Who is the most famous person you've met, and what was it like working with them? How did they act off set?

    [–]Redrammer[S] 36 points 3 days ago
I met Jake Gyllenhaal a few months back. He is an absolute douchebag. Anyone who took his photo or asked for an autograph was immediately kicked off the set. He didn't talk to anyone of the background and acted all snooty. Robin Williams and Danny Devito on the other hand are two of the coolest down to earth people you will meet.
    permalinkparent
    [

Is it not a bit unprofessional for an extra to approach an actor on set and ask for an autograph/picture? I still think it's a douchebag move on Gyllenhaal's part, but surely people would know it comes with the territory?

If its on set and there working yes. But if its after the workday its usually fine. Generally there more than happy to take a picture or to sign something. I did a photoshoot for Cheaper by the Dozen 2 and once Bonnie hunt saw my camera she insisted we take photos till there was one I liked.
    permalinkparent

You talking about on the film "An Enemy"? I completely disagree with your opinion of Jake. He was very nice to the crew and a lot of fun to be around.

He bought the crew a ping pong table at the studio so we could play in between shooting. Near the end of the shoot he put in over a thousand dollars of his money for the $5 draw. One lucky person walked home with a lovely bonus that day.

Jake is a very focused actor but a lot of times he was hilarious and interesting. He was in this movie in almost every scene and it was a very intense role. I can see why he wanted to limit contact. Without sounding like I have too much of a man-crush on him the guy is an artist.

Based on what you said Im assuming your a crew member. It would make sense why we have two different views of him.

Interesting perspectives and some insight into the movie.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I'm late with my birthday wishes for Jake I hope he had a great day!

It sounds like that crew member didn't have good memories of Jake on set, I guess he has good days and bad days like everyone else.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Chicca you are not the only one !!!

    Happy birthday from Portugal, Jake.

    ReplyDelete
  90. "Anyone who took his photo or asked for an autograph was immediately kicked off the set. "

Jake may have not asked that his pic be taken or an autograph while he's in character but the fact that one crew member (so far) has made a comment that is a universal response from people who are angry with celebrities for not making them the center of their world. I think if Jake had the rep of getting people kicked off a set, losing their jobs, the gossip press in Canada would have had a field day.

The person that defended Jake was cool. People get very protective of Jake.

    ReplyDelete
  91. "Anyone who took his photo or asked for an autograph was immediately kicked off the set. "

Sounds like an extra who was probably taking pics to sell the media. I don't believe that person was a crew member.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Another late birthday wisher here! Hope Jake enjoyed his day with friends and family.

Sounds like an extra who got his hand slapped to me too, LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Thanks for the behind the scenes glimpse on "Enemy" set, UV.

I guess timing is everything. Maybe Jake's head was in a different space at the time he was approached. Sounds like this guy is in the habit of taking photos on movie sets, and sort of expects it. I'm glad someone spoke up to challenge his assertions and shut him down.

I've always had the impression that Jake has a very positive influence on the atmosphere of his movie sets.

  94. Just wanted to add that there were a lot of candid photos taken while they were trying to shoot, since it wasn't a closed set. While we might have enjoyed it, it had to be disruptive to them. I also agree with Anon 9:31 about the guy trying to seel photos.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Sorry for the confusion: It was a crew member who talked about the ping pong table and how cool Jake is. The disgruntled poster was an extra.

They went on to discuss how poorly extras are treated, etc.

We know Jake takes pictures with people on the set. We also know he can say no and sometimes be prickly.

The disgruntled extra could be exaggerating.

More importantly, I thought it was a fascinating little behind the scenes glimpse. We knew form the story that the part would be intense, and it sounds like it was.

  98. I'm laughing ... earlier today I read a story that Tom Hardy was a jerk on the set of Mad Max and I come here and read this about Jake haha
But as Jake, was just one person saying this.

I remember the reports on twitter that he didn't want photos, he looked angry, but who knows what happened. Everyone has bad days.

If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet

.Besides containing a warm, assured performance by Jake Gyllenhaal as a wastrel uncle, this piercing family drama by Nick Payne has an outstanding ensemble and boldly metaphorical design.

  113. According to this website "Prisoners" already has a release date. Sept 20th. I'm not sure how this all works. A movie that has not been shot yet has a release date already while "Enemy" doesn't?

  121. Hallo people!

today I am a little bit sad because it is the last day of Jake's play.
I am on the other side of the planet, and I didn't have the possibility to see Jake live on stage,
but to see all the fans pics ,read all your Reviews, the enthusiasm of the normal people who saw the play, the almost unanimous appreciation for Jake's performance, has made me feel like I was there too.
    thanks to everybody!

  123. [From The Enquirer, print edition]

She broke his heart and dumped him two years ago, but Reese Witherspoon still makes the cut with Jake Gyllenhaal – before he reads any magazine or newspaper, an assistant rips or snips out every last photo of Reese because he’s still torching… and simply can’t bear to see her face!

Said a family friend: “You’d think he’s be over it by now, especially since he’s dated many beauties like Taylor Swift, and Reese is now married. But Jake can’t bring himself to look at her photo – and absolutely refuses to see her movies. So before any publications are given to him, Reese stories or pictures are RIPPED! Even if it’s just a photo with a small caption, his assistant clips it out with scissors!”

FP, I'm sorry for you and the many, many Jake fans who didn't get to see him onstage. I'm glad you were able to share in the excitement a little bit. I think it's been a great adventure for Jake.

I've been lucky enough to go a few times. And I will be there tomorrow for the last performance. I'm glad I got to share the experience with so many Jake fans.

  156. I'm glad EW has acknowledged Jake's cinematic and theatrical performances as being amongst the best of the year. I loved that Mark Harris, columnist for EW, called it "the best NY stage debut I've seen in a long time" and described Jake as "the real thing". High praise. And genuine.
This year, Jake has reminded critics and viewers alike what he's made of as a movie actor whilst providing a lovely surprise as a natural stage actor.

I'm eagerly awaiting for UV's thoughts of Jake's final performance on stage. I'm one of the people unable to see his play and vicariously experiencing it through all the recounts of the fortunate ones.

As Jake bids farewell (for now) to the stage, and we just finished all our frantic preparations, I wish you a Merry Christmas.
For Jake and everyone here at Gyllenbabble: Happy Holidays!
