Portrait of the artist

Each year, the Berlinale jury members are photographed, and the official portraits line the main hall. Jake Gyllenhaal is now a part of that tradition. Here's how it looks on the wall:

And another photo of the jury, taken by photographer Susanna Kraus:

Hope we'll get a bigger version of that one.

Thanks to Monica, we can see Jake's portion of the start of the festivities. Here's his introduction at the opening ceremony:

And here's his exchange with the mistress of ceremonies:

And here is the photo call:

Thank you, Monica, for the videos. Thanks to Stephanie/IHJ for the pictures.

  1. Funny Jake-centric blogger covers Jake Day 1 and Day 2.

This is probably on Monica's red carpet videos, but it's funny to see Jake checking his pockets at the end. You know he's making sure he has his phone!

  9. he looks gorgeous, I hope he's have a great time. It was funny to see him checking his pockets (probably for his phone)

When I think about when Jake was doing press 6 years ago for BBM the way he looked then and the way he looks now. I want to know his secret but I think he's one of those people who will age very slowly and gracefully and never lose the droolability.

  10. #Berlinale realisation: Jake Gyllenhaal has now (one presumes) seen a Christian Petzold film.

I love the video of the presenter and Jake. The public seems to like Jake.
All laughing. It was so fun!
The jury members seem to like him too.

I read in somewhere that will have a tribute to Corbijn.

  11. Gorgeous portrait of Jake, he truly is aging well isn't he?

Love the videos, thanks Monica and they are really are a love fest over Jake there and who can blame them?

  12. I noticed it, too. The audience inside really seemed to embrace him. The fans outisde were so enthusiastic to be out in the cold like that, too. I'm glad. I noticed in one shot of him on the red carpet in the edited video (great job monica!) he had this sort of 'secret smile' clearly enjoying the affection.

  13. The pictures of Jake during the last couple of weeks is like the best makeover ever. Jake is hot with a beard and his green khaki pants but damn, boy sure cleans up nicely. Wow, just so good looking which sometimes I'm sure is a double edge sword. I was really impressed with the math problem.

  15. UV, Finally the Jake/Charlotte video played. What was Jake looking for in his pockets?
He looks as beautiful as he did back in 2005-6. He is gggorgeous and he will age very well...as his father is aging well.
I love to see Jake look like this, happy, healthy and handsome. I also like that Google can translate pages but still I have problems :(
Videos, photographs and portraits are universally understood...and Jake is universally beautiful.

Ciggie break with Jake Gyllenhall - but what if I'd rather met the other Jury member???#nevergetwhatyouwantevenonsaturday"

Apparently katja replied that she was sitting home eating pasta and talked to him. So that was fun. Sounds like he's enjoying Berlin.

The Clarchens Ballhaus is an historic dancehall. (1913.)

  21. CNN and other media outlets are reporting that Whitney Houston is dead at the age of 48.

I'm not surprised, she has been battling demons for years.

A beautiful woman and voice silenced.

    RIP Whitney

    ReplyDelete
  22. OMG. Chica that is a shocker.

How terrible. Yes, she had demons for sure. I saw a recent photo of her and she looked ill. How sad that she just couldn't get it together.

    RIP, Whitney.

  23. Damn. I can't say i'm surprised at all. I saw some recent pap pics of her and I wondered how long it would be to hear this awful news.

She had one of the most powerful voices in R&B and pop that was ruined by substance abuse. As a fan it was painful to watch her downfall.

    She is at peace now.

I stopped here to check out all the Jake updates in Berlin, thanks so much for keeping us up to date.

    RIP Whitney.

The B.Z. explains the Bermuda Triangle of party notables, who are the true VIPs and where was celebrated at the opening on violent
Oh, how fresh the stars shine even in the first Berlinale night
    11th February 2012 09.40 clock, BZ
You never know who disappears, you never know who suddenly appears in the Bermuda Triangle of the Berlinale.

Veronica Ferres rummages in her clutch, "I can not find my card, but I'm invited," she says, for security. "Mr. Kosslick said, I come in here ..." In an exclusive VIP compartment of the Berlinale Palace could only hand-picked high-caliber sipping champagne while the rest of the party at Swabian Spätlese jostled in the foyer. Oskar Roehler brought out the best and staged his own ego-me-sooo looking forward to see-you-show-cases, with knee and kissing in front of colleagues. Iris Berben teetered straight to Borchardt, the unofficial comfort-inn for not opening reception for invited guests. Thomas Gottschalk shook at 1.30 clock raus.Am longest was the detention of Jewish girls' school. 30-meter line in front of the entrance to the August street, in the mid-sections 500 Paulysaal watered the new It-location with 500 Prickelbrause Pullen, was on the other floors celebrated kosher. Barely visible with hipster-rimmed glasses: Herbert Grönemeyer, who later continued at the Berlinale party hoppte.Dort, Diane Kruger munched before midnight, and finally was able to be fully nasty things about her inaugural film "Les Adieux de la Reine." Armin Rohde, "It was so boring I fell asleep." Klaus Wowereit whispered his film criticism rather grinned mother Beimer ear, "I am delighted that Angelina Jolie at the Berlinale, but even more that Brad Pitt is.." Hollywood dream pair potential: Jake Gyllenhaal was at the head table for hours on the arm by Léa Seydoux down while they were talking intensely. And Veronica Ferres could still clean, savoring the evening: "Sleep is for the Berlinale, is subordinate," she said to BZ.

I'm offended by your assumption that you know how Ms. Houston died, it has not been announced, you might be surprised just like alot of folks were when Amy Winehouse's cause of death was announced and for that matter the cause of Heath Ledger's death. Just give respect not your judgement.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I was shocked about whitney. I was watching TV when my friend came into the room and told me she read it online. I kind of felt that shame initial shock I felt when I heard about Heath. I don't want to speculate what happened. I'd rather wait until the official word comes out.

I am glad Jake is having a great time at the Berlin FF.

I wonder if Jake will be at the Oscars in two weeks. (or at the parties )

  40. that's a great picture, anon. Thanks!

I'll be flipping back and forth between the Grammys and the BAFTAs tonight.

I was hoping Gary Oldman might won BAFTA. I can see this as worrying for George Clooney, and Brad Pitt. Happy for Jean Dujardin. Did Angelina remain in Berlin?

  42. "I was hoping Gary Oldman might won BAFTA. I can see this as worrying for George Clooney, and Brad Pitt"

I think Gary might have a chance outside of The Artist actor, I think George and Brad might split the vote. I really don't think is as popular in Hollywood as he would like people to think. This really should have been Brad's year because he did a role out of his normal comfort zone but Brad suffers from the same syndrome as Jake, do damn beautiful. Brad still is sexy as heck, George is not. But it could be I hold a grudge against George and Leo because Jake should have had the role in Ides of March, and James Franco is directing a Joe Namath biopic with some no name actor. I am glad Jake left his old management, they truly were not going the distance for him. CAA really sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thanks for the photos anon!!

I will be doing the same Bobbyanna. I'm not surprised at Dujardin winning the Bafta.

Clooney did have the edge in the beginning IMO but I don't think he is going to win on Oscar night, especially since Dujardin also won the SAG.

  44. Jake attended an event for young filmmakers:
    bild

    ReplyDelete
  45. I like the Baftas, I watch them every year even though I already know who wins before they air here. They just get down to business and give out the awards.

I see that Jake is attending other events at the festival and not just going to screenings It should be a very interesting experience for him.

Jim Parrick wrote the script for the Namtah bio and Franco is set to direct it. I knew that Jake was no longer attached to it but I haven't heard who will be playing him now.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I saw that, Monica. There seemed to be some controversy because not as many people attended as usual. There are photos of the event on Getty, but none of Jake, sadly.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I don't think that Franco project is the same one that Jake was supposed to do, is it?

I didn't see any of the BAFTAs. The whole award season is even less interesting than usual this year.

Why would they e filming a bio on Namath in 3D? Is this another one of Franco's "experiments"?

I can't see HW doing 2 movies on him but we will see if this is a different movie.

I haven't been watching the Baftas, like SA I already know the winners but zi have been watching the Grammys.

God bless Glen Campbell, what an inspiation and he sounded good, ditto to Stevie Wonder and The Beach boys.

Congrats to Adele, I love her!

    ReplyDelete
  51. It was fun watching Colin Firth retrieve Meryl Streep's shoe! I always enjoy the BAFTAS.

I was flipping back and forth. Adele really got a warm reception. I was happy for her.

It's great to know Jake is visible and involved in the festival activities.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Some parts of the Grammys were just absurd and awful. But I did enjoy Paul at the end - that was a good song to end on. Adele was amazing. And go, Glen Campbell. Words I never thought I'd hear myself say!

I wonder if they'll rerun the BAFTAs. I'd like to see Colin and Meryl.

LOL about the 3D, Sag Actor and OONP. I guess it makes as much a sense as doing The Great Gatsby in 3D. I just assumed it was one of Franco's special projects. He's a pretentious ass, but he is out there, doing things. I'd love to see Jake take on a small film or play.

I think there are competing Linda Lovelace biopics, so Broadway Joe could probably have two, too.

    New post.
