Family photos

The cast of Brothers, including Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire, posed for photos over the weekend, at a press conference and later a cocktail party for their move, Brothers.

Here's our first photo of Jake with the two young actresses who play his nieces in the movie.



And the three leads - looks like they get along swimmingly!

    Man, that Ryan Kavanaugh makes sure to get his face time!

    A photo and very short video of Jake on set - from a car forum. I've never read more about the cars involved in a movie than on LaOD. Oh, and FL, the Porsche is an automatic :)

    That first picture is adorable! Glad to see that Jake got a chance to do a bit of celebrating on Saturday since he missed out on Sunday. What great photos of everyone, thanks UV and IHJ and of course thanks for all the updates this past week!

    PS: I am really sick of looking at Kavanaugh's face. We know you are a big time HW producer, we get it now please disappear behind the scenes already.

    I'm really loving these pictures. What a dream cast. Yes, it looks as if they really get along well. I think Tobey is genuinely fond of Jake. The picture of Jake smiling down at Jim Sheridan is priceless! LOL!

    I'm kind of amused by Kavanaugh. I don't really mind him. He executive produced "3:10 to Yuma,""The Kingdom," and this year's big musical,"Nine," with Daniel Day Lewis. He's also got 15 projects in development according to imdb.

    What I remember is, about a year ago, he was quoted saying some lovely things about Jake and Reese,and described himself as a friend of theirs. That put him in my good graces. A guy who finances movies and likes Jake can't be all bad. Now, if he messes up...

    Oh yeah, I forgot about what Ryan said about Jake and Reese last year!

    They do look like they are really friends in real life , you can tell from the interviews as well. I still don't get why people get Jake and Tobey mixed up but it's great that they are having fun with it during these interviews.

    Looks like Stephanie uploaded Jake's Daily 10 appearance on youtube. He's in fine form.

    And bobbyanna, I'm mostly kidding about Ryan K. I was just annoyed that it seemed like we were hearing more about him than Jake and brothers at one point. But Lionsgate/Relativity are starting to win me over :)

    And for a minute there we were hearing more about him than Jake. I think he loves being famous or something. My lawyer has "turned into" a movie producer. He's doing a movie about Kervorkian with Al Pacino.
    Similar dynamic...at the local level:)

    Charming men are charming, aren't they? The ability to charm women, men, children, small barnyard animals. That takes a special sort. Jake is that sort.

    What a treat, I didn't think we were going to get much from Saturday! I love these pictures, those two girls are adorable and Jake ain't so bad himself:)

    He is in rare form I hope he plans on doing more than one appearence on the talk shows. He was so funny with Lyons on E!

    He has been very generous in his praise of Tobey anon. what a class act. From the interviews it sounds like it was a great experience for everyone involved.

    Natalie Portman is steady as the wife left behind when her soldier husband goes missing and is presumed dead, but Tobey Maguire’s haunted, wild-eyed returning soldier is over-the-top. For my money, the strongest (and subtlest) performance comes from Jake Gyllenhaal as the ex-con who finds a quiet redemption of sorts in his brother’s absence.

    This is like a Japanese interview.

    He was in fine form indeed! And the sweating like Nixon joke cracked me up. Isn't it wonderful to get to enjoy his wit and charm after such a long drought?

    ITA, FL. I have often marvelled at his inherent ability to charm the pants off of just about any living creature in his sights. Not many people are that special.

    Great pics from the Brothers promo on Saturday. He looks fantastic..... love to see a man in jeans, t-shirt and a sport coat.

    I never thought that I would say that I enjoyed Ben Lyons interviewing anyone, but leave it to Jake! He can charm the pants and other clothing off of anyone!!

    Funny, goofy, smart(Nixon!!) This has been such a fun week, the reiviews have been good mixed on Brothers but even the "negative" reviews have something positive to say.

    Love the family photos, finally pics of the cast together. And as anyone can see NOW, there is very little resemblence between zJake and Tobey!

    Jake really is a "special sort" FL! A truly beautiful person. I'm always impressed with how much excitement his appearances generate even with seasoned pros.

    Jake's got a very unique gift with people. Even other actors, directors, producers, journalists, it's really pretty incredible!

    Couldn't help but notice how young he looks in the interviews with Access and E!

    Just saw that Natalie is going to be on the View tomorrow. Damn, I wish Jake was with her!

    I really hope Jake does Daily Show with Jon Stewart or even Letterman. Would love to see him on Jimmy Fallon too.

    Thanks for those links, Monica. I'm happy certain people are recognizing Jake's performance. I am trying not to get irritated with the overselling of Tobey :)

    Get real, I would love to see Jake do The Daily Show. But if he's in LA next week, I don't know if that will happen. And I really wanted Jake to do an appearance with Natalie. As annoying as The View is, I would have enjoyed seeing them together.

    I adore these pictures, even the ones with Kavanaugh in them! Baille Madison is getting just as much praise as the rest of the seasoned cast. What a cute pic of Jake and his "nieces".

    Jake is the tallest, ha, ha! Love reading that encounter by Nathaniel UV. He is one of my favorite movie critic bloggers and not just because he such a big Jake fan.

    So many trailers and interviews, looks like Lionsgate is finally pushing the film the way it should be.

    I haven't heard anything more about the L.A. premiere or if Jake plans on making any more talk show appearences other than J. Kimmel.

    Slow day today after so many busy ones! This is a short audio bit with Jake talking about some issues while filming LaOD. The headline makes it seem much worse than it was.

    Not clear if this is from the joint press conference or a solo interview. Also not clear why they chose to feature it.

    Looks like Jake is filming today as well:

    Aww, that's adorable.

    A press conference article in Coming Soon. We don't really learn anything new - they comment on Jake getting the laughs. I wish we could see some more footage from this thing!

    Thanks for the audio clip UV, though a bit odd. I doubt Jake or any actor has to work over Thanksgiving. I would assume filming on LAOD as well as other movies, etc. Will resume on Monday, 11/30. I don't know if filming is ending on LAOD today or it will resume on the weekend-Monday. Originally I read that it would film until 12/1, then at the end of Nov.

    The L.A, premiere of Brothers is 12/1 (I think) a Tuesday, I think he should be done filming by then.

    I hope he has a Happy Thanksgiving wherever he plans to celebrate it:NY, L.A., TN or maybe he plans to stay in PA. He has family there and he and Reese have visited/hung out with them several times already as he has with her family in TN along with the kids. I noticed that Jake looked and sounded a bit tired at that Press conf., but perked up a lot after during the press junket. He must be exhausted , I hope he gets plenty of rest.

    She will be in the UK on 12/2, Avon related.

    Thanks for the recap, Mary. Too bad Jake didn't get to join Natalie.

    A very positive Newsweek review. Downside - nothing about Jake.

    Portman has some of the most difficult scenes, and this is her most accomplished work since Closer. But Brothers is Maguire's movie. So gaunt that he almost looks like a ghost, he bites into his character like a rabid dog. Brothers shows us that even when our troops do come home, their war may be far from over.

    Anne looks gorgeous and so does Jake, he is wearing the same t-shirt and jacket from the press junket/press conference on Saturday!

    The Newsweek review is positive, the omission of Jake's performance his puzzling and frustrating.

    More from the conference from Saturday, I wish that there was more of the video.

    Jeffrey Wells about Maggie Gyllenhaal:
    Gyllenhaal also has the most beautiful eyes I've been personally close to in a long time. They're's something extra-vivid about them live, more so than they are on film. The last time I saw eyes this deep-blue-sea intense was when I got close to Elizabeth Taylor at a Manhattan party in the early '80s.

    If you missed Natalie Portman on Letterman, you missed Dave gushing about Brothers. He went on and on about how affecting it is, how great the performances are ("not a false note in the movie"). It really made me wish Jake had done Letterman, because it would have been fun to see how Jake reacted.

    Dave gushes over Natalie anyway, but this was really about the film. He urged everyone to go. It was great.

    This blogger went to the Monday screening but doesn't really have much to say, other than it was interesting. But she loved the movie.

    I saw Letterman, UV! His support for the movie was really great. He called Jake's name right away, then referred to Toby as Koby...as in Bryant. It was pretty funny, but he was dead serious about his regard for the movie. He said it would be a classic.

    Caught Natalie on Letterman too. What an endorsement of the movie, he really praised the film and the performances. I wish Jake would have been able to do Letterman.

    I was disappointed that the online Newsweek review of Brothers ignored Jake..... perhaps their print review in next week's issue will be a different one?

    I'm not cooking either...... my family goes to one of our favorite restaurants for Thanksgiving. Great food and no work!
