    ReplyDelete
  34. Me too, UV. I love old movie classics like G&D, and anything with Marlon Brando & Jean Simmons was high on my list.

Maybe they floated those names to see what the reaction would be. Mine is "Ugh!" Channing can't even sing, and JGL is all wrong for the part of Nathan Detroit. I'm assuming he'd be Nathan.Either one. They are both wrong for it.

Plus, G&D is dated. I don't think it would work as a movie today.

  38. Jake Gyllenhaal To Star in Indie ‘Nightcrawler’ (EXCLUSIVE)

ake Gyllenhaal is continuing to focus on edgy, adult thrillers as he is set to star along with Rene Russo in the indie “Nightcrawler” that Tony Gilroy will produce.

Dan Gilroy is helming from a script he penned.

Story follows the story of a driven young man who discovers the nocturnal world of L.A. freelance crime journalism.

Gilroy will produce along with Gyllenhaal and Jennifer Fox along with Michel Litvak and David Lancaster who are producing and financing via their Bold Films banner.

Sierra/Affinity will kick off international sales in Cannes. The film marks the directorial debut for Dan, who co-wrote “The Bourne Legacy” with his Tony.

Since leaving CAA and joining WME, Gyllenhaal has tackled more story-driven adult dramas including indie “An Enemy” and Alcon Entertainment’s “Prisoners” with Hugh Jackman.

He is also repped by Bloom Hergott. Russo can be seen next in the indie “Frank and Cindy” and is repped by CAA and manager John Crosby.

Dan and Tony Gilroy are repped by CAA.

    ReplyDelete
  39. He will also produce! Yeah Jake!

    What is Bloom Hergott?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Good news about the new film.

Monica Bloom Hergott is a law firm in Beverly Hills

    ReplyDelete
  41. This is wonderful news!!! YAAAY!

Sounds good. Love the title, too.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I tink Bloom Hergott is a law practice. Entertainment lawyers.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yeah Jake, busy man. Renee Russo is so gorgeous.

I saw that about Guys and Dolls, I disagree about the casting of JGL, he may look like a very young Sinatra but Channing I think is good casting.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Some "sidebar" gossip: Rene Russo is married to Dan Gilroy. He also wrote Real Steel, that starred Hugh Jackman.

He wrote the Bourne movies. Matt Damon refused to do the fourth one because he wanted his director Paul Greengrass, who left the project, so Tony Gilroy stepped in to direct Jeremy Renner.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oops! Sorry, mary! I didn't realize you'd posted the info about the law firm. : )

  60. Nightcrawler sounds like it could be pretty cool. I've always loved Rene Russo. I worry that it seems like a vanity project for the Gilroys and Russo, but I shall try to be optimistic :)

    ReplyDelete
  61. Looks like the producers for An Enemy figured out that they should get with the program.

That one still that was found generated a fair amount of buzz, so they put it back and added some more.

I hope it gets some traction for the movie stateside.

    ReplyDelete
  62. ". I worry that it seems like a vanity project for the Gilroys and Russo, but I shall try to be optimistic :)"

I would like to think that Jake is not that naive. Although it's independent film, I would think casting someone like Jake in the lead role would take away the attention from Rene.

  101. New York Daily News: Jake Gyllenhaal's presence at SoulCycle prompts sold-out classes (it's quite a long article)

As ladies like Leslie and Sheinbaum know, the 32-year-old actor regularly sits in the front row of instructor Jolie Walsh’s 10:30 a.m. class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and tends to pop in to her 11:45 a.m. Saturday sessions. And it’s not like he’s trying to be discreet.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Hagen, i saw the article. Was very interesting, special this part:

"...Girls hoping to lure Gyllenhaal into their sweaty arms during class will be disappointed to hear that Gyllenhaal’s blue-eyed girlfriend Emily was along for the ride as well......For professional reasons, obviously, we realized we were the only other person in the room besides the celebrity hunk and his SoulCycle soulmate. We walked right over to Jolie to ask an important question that couldn’t wait."

    Good morning everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I think when they mean soul mate I believe they are referring to the soul cycle teacher Jolie. Do any of you guys find it weird that jake has photographed in NYC all week and the past week and there is no photograph of him and Emily. Also in yesterday's twitter at the coffee shop a lady noticed him hitting on a blond girl. Also a couple of weeks ago he was with Anna for supper and then at the beer garden. I wonder if him and Emily are still dating or if he was ever dating her.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Scott, Monica, and FP, How are u guys? About all these connections, I have a theory that Hollywood is just a big high school, where everybody knows everybody in some way, and then when they meet in the street it seems just like old friends.
    Have a nice day

    ReplyDelete
  105. Loved the SC article, but I bet Jake changes his schedule. : )
I'm curious when the author visited. Don't think it's recent, because she describes Jake's hair as long enough to wear in a "top knot" and she mentions his "grizzly six o" clock shadow" dripping sweat.

Jake lost the grizzly look and long hair, when he went to ATL to shoot his movie. It's growing back, but still fairly light, not grizzly.

Soul Cycle's pretty guarded about it's clients and their schedules. She seems to rely on semi-anonymous sources. It's a great piece for Soul Cycle, but not so much for Jake if he wants to keep up with his schedule. : ) I have to smile at the excitement he causes just being Jake.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Lara, lol. It was a fun moment.

Fun article about Jake and Soul Cycle.

    ReplyDelete
  107. "Do any of you guys find it weird that jake has photographed in NYC all week and the past week and there is no photograph of him and Emily. "

No, Jake seems to know how to date women without people knowing. Big mouth let it slip that he once bought out a movie screening just so he and she could watch a movie out together but of course she complained about it because she wanted to be seen with him.

It would not surprise me if Jake is dating many women and they know he is casually dating, people do that you know even me.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Well said Scott, I have the same tought.

    ReplyDelete
  109. The New York Magazine puts a slightly different spin on the Soul Cycle article: Jake's followers declined to tell the Daily News their names for fear of retribution from cycling powers.

    LOL

    ReplyDelete
  110. I just read that, Hagen. Too funny.

The whole story is amusing, for its length and (lack of) depth! I'm assuming Jake's PR was aware of the story. The SoulCycle spinners definitely were, though I'm a little surprised there was a named SoulCycle instructor. Remember that exchange between a tweeter and a SCer who saw Jake in class. She seemed not to want to publicize it.

It's a popular story on the NYDN site, in reading and sharing.

    ReplyDelete
  111. The Drama Desk Awards were just announced and Huge Congratulations to Brian F. O'Byrne, for his role as Terry's brother, nominated as a featured actor. It was the play's only nomination.

Among the Best Actor nominees were Tom Hanks for his starring role in Nora Ephron's last play. Nathan Lane, Vanessa Redgrave, and Cicely Tyson were also among those nominated for Best Actor.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Boo! Sorry, but he did not deserve that nomination over Jake. That's a snub, and an unwarranted one.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Oh, I agree, UV. Definitely a snub. Jake was the stronger actor. I found Brian's performance very uneven.

I can't think of any other actors, except for Tom Hanks, Redgrave, Nathan Lane, Cicely Tyson and Bette Midler, who bridge film and stage, who were nominated.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Meant to say, I'm glad the play squeaked a nomination out. I was disappointed for Annie too.

    ReplyDelete
  115. How the hell did they over look Jake? His performance was much stronger than Brian's, what bs.

    ReplyDelete
  116. ^^^^ I feel the same way

    ReplyDelete
  117. Big mouth let it slip that he once bought out a movie screening just so he and she could watch a movie out together but of course she complained about it because she wanted to be seen with him.

Scott, it didn't happen. Jake's PR team said it was not true.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Who are you guys referring to by saying Jake brought big mouth to a movie premiere?

    ReplyDelete
  119. It's a story perpetuated by Taylor Swift's team. Enough said.

    This was funny:

soulcycle classes sell out when Jake Gyllenhaal shows up. Coincidentally when I show up there's plenty of room.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Jake will attend the world premiere of "The Great Gatsby" at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center on May 1st.

    ReplyDelete
  121. It makes me so sad to see Jake attending this as a guest and not a star. Has anyone watched any of the clips with Tobey Maguire? He's terrible. Just awful.

I know he's Leo's friend and he has received acclaim for other roles. But I didn't think he was believable in Brothers, and I don't think he'll be in this.

    Kristopher Tapley ‏@kristapley 28 Mar
@Bluezeph Heard that about Joel, that he was really the only saving grace. We'll see. Hoping I have a different reaction.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I think "The Great Gatsby" would have been a nice big budget project to enhance Jake's image as a movie star, if only from a commercial point of view. The movie will probably be successful at the box office. On the other hand the trailers don't give me confidence that the film will hit the right tone.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Thanks, Monica. They don't seem to have screened it a lot, which could be telling. I guess we'll see.

Hagen, I don't think TGG will be any good. I just want to see Jake in a big movie again. This film has a lot of buzz and is going to get loads of publicity. It's opening Cannes, etc.

There will also, apparently, be a three-hour director's cut. I'd love that for a Jake film.

I saw someone on twitter point out how Jake isn't in important movies anymore. And while I don't think TGG will be important, it is big. It makes me sad that Jake isn't in this kind of production.

I'm happy he's working a lot. But it's a shame he isn't getting the choice roles.

  129. UV, TGG is being hyped to death, but I believe if it weren't for Leo & JayZ as executive producer, and it wouldn't be that big. It has a contemporary soundtrack too, which their pushing, but I think it will be like Moulin Rouge, another Baz extravaganza.

Jake's invited to the premiere, but I wonder if he'll go. He'd definitely steal Tobey's limelight. He already has with a frickin audiobook! LOL!

  131. The movie project I really wanted Jake to get in on is the one shooting in Boston right now. David O. Russell doing Abscam. Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner, Jennifer Lawrence.

I wish he'd get some of these "prestige" projects, too.

  132. Prestige - that's the right word. :(

I do take comfort that a lot of the stories about the book wonder why Jake isn't in the actual movie.

  134. I just want to see Jake in a big movie again.

    Same thought.

Bob, will not be on ABSCAM but inspired by what happened. Looks like they're afraid to go with a real story and avoid what happened to ZDT. And Michael Peña is in it.

  135. Remember when Jake was describing Hollywood fame as "who´s Jake Gyllenhaal, get me JG, get me someone like JG, who´s JG"...I personally think that´s what happening.
And personally I don´t think that Bradley is such a good actor, but he´s definitely the "it" thing right now...but I´m convinced it will fade, I´m not sure he has what it takes to stay, Jake has it and he will.
I enjoy thoroughly his recent projects and it looks like I will the next ones too...he seems to be happy with his choices and very cautious with projects like POP I think

  136. Well, I think the sad part is that the "Get me Jake Gyllenhaal" phase didn't last as long as it should have.

Reading that SoulCycle article and cracking up. The woman who sets her alarm so she won't miss the sign up kills me.

  137. Jake seems to prefer leading roles in smaller productions to supporting roles in high profile movies. Overall I'm fine with smaller productions, though each time a new film project is announced I wonder, if the movie will be released in theaters or on DVD over here or if I will have to import the DVD/Blu-ray. And there's a gradual shift in Jake's development towards producing and eventually directing. I think that process could speed up, if he doesn't get the kind of feedback as an actor he would like to receive.

  138. E! Online: Jake Gyllenhaal Narrates The Great Gatsby Audio Book, Makes Us Swoon as Much as Leonardo DiCaprio

Imagine it: Jake Gyllenhaal in a expertly tailor tuxedo, hair perfectly coiffed back as he looks down on the swinging party that he's throwing in his luxurious mansion. And keep imagining it, because that's the only way you'll see Gyllenhaal as Jay Gatsby. But you can hear him narrate The Great Gatsby, though of course, that means he'll be voicing the narrator (Nick Carraway) and not the character that Leonardo DiCaprio is embodying in the upcoming Baz Luhrmann adaptation.

This new audio book reading (available on Audible) comes with a seal of approval from author F. Scott Fitzgerald's estate. And a seal of swooniness from us. Below, about 20 minutes of excerts from Gatsby, read by Gyllenhaal. Audible Editor Chris gushes, "Gyllenhaal treats it with the utmost respect, allowing the vivid descriptions of mansions, landmarks, and 1920s New York to flow at just the right pace."

Sure, it's a nice consolation prize and all, but maybe we can remake The Great Gatsby again in a few years and give Jake a shot at it? How handsome he'd look is reason alone to fork up the cash, Hollywood!

  139. I also think Jake looks for something unique, so I believe sometimes his movie choices don't lead him in the direction of other actors.

It isn't only what he's offered, it's also what he chooses. There were parts I wish he'd got, but then, when the movie came out it wasn't good, so I'm glad he wasn't part of it.

Most actors make movies that are predictable, tried & true, and people forget about them. Jake makes movies with characters people still remember and talk about ten years later.

Popular Hollywood leading men like Clooney, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Robert Downey, Jr., even Mark Wahlberg & Matt Damon, are all growing older. So I believe Jake's time will come around again. It's inevitable. I'm just glad he is working more right now. The rest will come.

I don't dislike Bradley Cooper. He's a good character actor, who started in TV. He's 38 and just hitting his stride the past couple of years. Bradley also puts himself out there, and goes after parts and networks. He is always networking, and marketing himself 24/7. Jake's got a more low key approach.

  140. One other thing I meant to say. What makes me feel bad, is when I read about Soderbergh, or David O Russell, or Fincher, or Nolan, who have actors they work with regularly, or Clooney and Ben Affleck with their friends and collaborators.

Jake obviously has a lot of friends, but he doesn't seem to have those regular directors, or collaborators, and I wish that he was part of that. Lots of actors do very well without that, but I wish Jake had those kind of professional relationships.

It is honestly torture knowing that Jake Gyllenhaal is permitted to read THE GREAT GATSBY audiobook, but not to play Nick.

Now she said everything, this exactly how i feel. Sad

I'm not sure, if we really should be sad that Jake isn't a part of the movie:

I've now heard from two trusted sources that say GREAT GATSBY isn't bad. . .it's abysmal. But time will tell!

    Jonah Hill??? Noooooooooooo

    What's wrong with him?

That's an interesting point, bobbyanna. I tend to think that it's better to have a wide variety of collaborators - and especially directors - in an actor's résumé. Otherwise an actor would run the risk to get stuck in a routine. Working with various directors with different approaches might be helpful to unleash an actor's creativity.
