I love lists. And surveys and questionnaires. Doesn't everyone? So imagine how happy I was to see that Forbes magazine, well known for its lists, recently published their newest list, the Forbes Star Currency survey, an exclusive look at what the business side of Hollywood really thinks of more than 1,400 working actors when it comes to ensuring the financial success of film projects. Fourteen hundred. One thousand four hundred. That's a lot of working actors they were asked to comment on.
The Forbes Star Currency survey was sent to entertainment industry members globally, asking them to use a provided scale in ranking those 1,400-plus actors as individuals on a range of attributes regarding their participation in a film, including the actor's ability to attract significant financing to a project with their involvement; if their presence guarantees theatrical distribution; if they significantly drive theatrical box office performance; and if their involvement is an essential component in securing rights deals for revenue streams including DVD, pay/free TV, etc.
Members of the entertainment industry ranked Will Smith No. 1 on the survey. I guess that's not a big surprise. But in scrolling down that list I note that the first under-30 actor represented was Shia LeBeouf, who at age 22 placed 33rd. That's certainly a nice feather. Scrolling further down the list the next under-30, Keira Knightly, places 42nd.
The third under-30 on the Forbes list comes in at number 52.
On a list of over 1,400 working actors. Well color me IMPRESSED!

ReplyDeleteAnd while I agree that Jake's ranking is really impressive, particularly in light of his lack of a big box office hit in recent years..... I resent that young Shia is rated so much higher. When it comes to talent, charisma and artistic substance, there's simply no comparison IMO.

I love this list! Great to see Jake ranked so highly. It is annoying to see some of the names above his, but alternately heartening to see some of those below :)

Allen & Delancy's is not far from the tiny theater where they're performing,
ReplyDeleteSo a couple of years ago when I was in Manhattan we stayed just a block away from Allen & Delancey. Went to a restaurant on E. 14th (Classic Stage Theatre is on E. 13th). We walked. It took us about a half hour of speed walking to get to restaurant for our reservation. So, not real close. More like a mile.
The list or better Jakes ranking is very impressive. Especially since he did not have even one film out in 2008. (Hopefully this will change this year)

If I counted correctly there are only 9 actors under 30 ranking among the first 100.
Jake in NY - I would love to read/see him supporting Maggie and Peter tomorrow night.
Hollywood Reporter reported a kind of first possible line-up for Cannes.
"Festival de Cannes reps would never confirm titles before they have been officially announced, but already a long list of near-certainties and strong hopefuls is emerging"
"Brothers" is not mentioned yet but I am waiting patiently.
Very impressive indeed considering he had no movies out last year.

Making #52 on that Forbes list is great fo Jake, very impressive. like several have said here already, his last few movies have not been hits, can't wait until Brothers is released.

Gads, I hate this fascination he's indulging in with the endless parade of hats. Bleck. He looks like he should be delivering newspapers. Still, it's nice to see him supporting his sister and BIL on their opening night. Seems like it's been ages since we've seen Jake and Maggie pictured together.
