Heath and Jake in Pictures

We've seen some beautiful photos of Heath over these last days. Many of them evoked shots Jake has taken. So we thought we'd pair them up.

Heath Ledger. Jake Gyllenhaal.

But Heath's style can never really be duplicated:

  5. Beautiful photos of both of them, thank you. Watched A Knight's Tale at the weekend - it was kind of nice, he was so angelic, for want of a better word.

Very sad to think Heath is currently on his last journey

  8. Morning, all. The LJer who posted about seeing Jake at Heath's memorial service has added a few more details.

    Again, there's nothing verified.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I don't see why he wouldn't be there, and the LJer has given quite a few details about her work etc.

btw beautiful pictures of 2 beautiful men UV.

  10. What a lovely idea, UV!!! These are great. If I recall, the pictures of the two of them with glasses on, might have been the last time they were in contact with one another. Weren't these pictures part of something Michael Stipe was doing on his website? Anyhow, I know they appeared within a few days of one another, right around the time Jake was in NYC for something. Maybe late summer? (during the MV period?) I know Heath and Michael were friendly.

I'm actually relieved as well as sad, to know Heath is finally on his way home. He clearly loved his home and took such comfort from being there. And he will definitely be surrounded by his loved ones and not be lonely. Hopefully, Michelle will allow Matilda to spend time there not only as a way to stay connected to her father, but also bcz it will give Matilda the stability and privacy to grow up away from the glare of the cameras.

  12. Thanks for this post UV, what lovely photos.

I'm still on the high of the Giant win yesterday!

I read the added details on that LJ. Like you said UV, nothing is verified but I can't fanthom why she would make it up.

  14. Thanks for the great pictures, UV.
It was interesting to watch in which direction their careers are going and the choices they make....

The blogger from the LJ wrote "Jake was cracking jokes"...Can anyone imagine Jake doing this??
I don´t believe it and why did nobody else mention Jake?? They listed most of the famous names...

With "Brothers" starting again will Jake even be able to go to Perth?

I am so thankful that Heath is on his way home...

  15. Oh, that was so nice. Thank you dear.

  16. Thanks for the nice words on the pictures. It was pretty fun for us to pick them out, though sad, too. And there were plenty to choose from, so maybe we can do it again or do something else with all the great Heath pics.

Gabbana, I can imagine Jake joking. I don't think that was all he did, but at almost every wake and funeral I've attended, including those of my parents and my best friend, many laughs were had.

Joking can be a defense against the pain, but it can also just be a wonderful way to remember someone. It can also be a way to make people comfortable at an uncomfortable time.

So though I'm sure there will be people who condemn Jake based on the blogger's words, I prefer to see it in a positive light.

And Bobbyanna, yes, the last pair is the Michael Stipe glasses project. The photos were taken around the same time, so I like to think Jake and Heath crossed paths then.

I think someone in these comments said something about the Giants, but I can't quite make it out on my screen :P

Kidding - congrats to all you Giants fans. Today is a good day for you@

  17. Oh, and Holly - hugs! It's good to see you here, there and everywhere :)

  18. Assuming the LJ sighting of Jake and Reese at the second memorial is true, I'd like to add my 2¢ about the "cracking jokes" comment.

Several years ago, I lost a good friend to cancer. Her husband had a memorial "celebration" of her life on a Sunday afternoon for all her (many) friends. At one point, a group of 3 or 4 of us found ourselves telling our favorite stories about our dear friend..... remembering her spirit, her wit, her funny eccentricities. And yes, we were laughing! A lot. An outside observer might have mistakenly assumed that we were not being respectful, or even worse, we were not grieving "properly". Nothing would have been farther from the truth..... we were honoring her by remembering the funny and warm person she was in life. Sometimes in the midst of your grief, you need to shift your focus to the happy memories you have of that person while they were alive..... you need to take a break from sadness and crying and the reality of loss. You need to celebrate that person's life.

IMO, none of us are in a position to judge Jake.

  19. Evening everyone,
Interesting report. I hope she doesn't post it on a open forum to prove it's veracity, and loose her job.
I wonder about the Jake cracking jokes part, but then I remember laughing and smiling at my own dear father's funeral...friends had some great funny stories to tell me about him, and I hope Jake can have a smile and laugh among friends.

My mailbox yielded this article about his mom's weekend at USC:) enjoy:)

  20. Suvee,
Great minds eh? Same thing with my dad. He was a musician and his friends had me in stitches, telling me stories about his antics on the road.

Love this forum so so much...we love Jake and would never judge him, or any human being, going through the pain of loosing a best friend.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hi sass! Great minds, indeed. : )
And thanks for sharing your story about father's friends making you laugh.....

And my comment about not judging Jake wasn't meant for anyone here at GB..... I was just imaging how some other "fans" of Jake might use the joking story to rake him over the coals.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh not to worry, suvee. "Might have raked him over the coals" is in actuality did and continuing to do so over the joking story.

Sadly, that LJ entry is now locked. I fear she probably got a lot of nasty comments on the entry before locking down.

    ReplyDelete
  23. UV & Suvee, I understand what you are saying and I completly agree - I have lost two friends during the last years and we were also talking about some absurd and funny stories during the funeral and we were laughing.
But I am sure that some people will only read "Jake was cracking jokes" without knowing the context and they will judge. We have all learned during the last two weeks that the truth is boring - making up stories and sensationalism is more interesting....

  24. "Oh not to worry, suvee. "Might have raked him over the coals" is in actuality did and continuing to do so over the joking story"

Why am I not surprised?? Exactly what I expected...

  25. The definition of memorial =
Something, such as a monument or holiday, intended to celebrate or honor the memory of a person or an event."

That is what a memorial is about, getting together and showing honor for a memory. The memory of Heath would be filled with the good things and the fun things about him. Nobody has a memorial about a person to discuss all the sad and horrible times they spent with a person while they were alive. The recall the funny and good times.

You really need to put an end to this place. It used to be about the positive, now there is no reason.

  28. Whatever Jake did, I'm sure it was appropriate and heartfelt. It is not unusual to smile through your tears. He had great affection for Heath, and it was evident from the rapport they exhibited in Venice, in Toronto, on Oprah, at the SAG Awards, etc. Didn't I once read or hear Jake say that Heath put a great deal of thought and effort into his wardrobe? LOL! There are aspects of these relationships none of us can know. Most of us understand that. Some people don't.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Totally agree with all previous posts, a memorial is supposed to be a sort of celebration of ones life, where you share stories etc, and Im guessing Jake has plenty of funny Heath stories to share, honestly some people will twist anything to push their agenda. Anyway apparently Heaths family has just arrived back in Australia and are already being harrassed by the paps. I wish they would give them some space. The funeral looks like it will take place at the end of the week, although even here in Oz limited details are being released, which is a good thing. Also just noticed that in today's column Ted C seems to be defending Jake in his Q & A's, Interesting read, even though Im not a fan of his.

good news for the sad at heart about the Art House Powerhouse 100actors.

Paste Magazine.Jake is included in list Of course. Our Jakey is doing good..always has, always will

    Jake Gyllenhaal
{ RH: Zodiac, Rendition U: Brothers } Filmmakers look to Gyllenhaal—who is younger than most of his Powerhouse peers—to bring a fresh outlook to institutions like big-city newsrooms and the CIA, where his inquisitive nature is often the conscience of the film. He’s a fitting choice for the Hollywood remake of Susanne Bier’s home-front drama, Brothers.

  34. Thanks extra for that eonline poll...

There were eight couples listed and Jake and Reese got 52% of the vote. The nearest competitors were Drew Barrymore and Justin Long; as well as Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem. Each of the latter two couples got only 11%.

All of the other couples were in single digits.

Reese and Jake won by 41% in an eight party field.

    A pretty popular couple.

Just to add my words about the 'jokes' issue - a few months ago we lost a very dear friend, after the funeral we all retired to a local pub, and hour or so later you'd have thought it was a party as we laughed, joked and retold stories - although there was an underlying sadness in all of us, it actually felt fab to remember our friend in such a happy, positive light.

  37. Apologies for double post, Zodia is also up for best film and Fincher best director.

  38. Not surprised to hear that the blogger locked that entry, I can imagine the comments she received.

I read her added comments and it sounded like she heard him "crack jokes" after the service, not during. She was part of the catering staff, anything she saw/heard would be after the memorial service.

People were still there afterwards, eating, talking, etc. And there is nothing wrong with that, I have been to memorial services where dinner was served and things like that do happen.

That said her adding the name of her job and Wolfgang Puck was a no-no and probably freaked when she found out it was linked on IHJ.

Thanks for posting these wonderful pics of Heath and Jake, they are stunning.

  39. Thanks for posting those links to Paste and the Heath interview.

I haven't posted since Heath passed, so much sadness and all the debate about Jake and what his response should be and if he attended either memorial is disgusting. He should be left alone and grieve in his own way, period.

Lovely photos posted and it helps, thanks.

  44. Not to get people angry, but I don't think you should link private blog sites. I'm sure this person just wants to blog in private and not have all the attention she will now get, all the hits and questions. Just as the girl who claimed to be working at the memorial and had to make her sight private.

I think it's enough to say the sighting is out there and then let those who need to see the blog do the work to find it.

    Just my view

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ah, another dubious sighting. I guess if true, Reese had a day off from filming her movie in L.A.

Odd that they would have Reese on set in the middle of filming a scene, she is not in the movie, if the extra said that it was Natalie he was fighting with that would make sense.

BTW, I thought that it was a closed set and nobody was allowed on except people involved but i guess that make exceptions for girlfriends!!

PS: If true than this goes to further prove that they are legit, if you are bearding you don't use your time off from filming to fly to NM to fight with your BF, they sound like a normal couple. I wonder if he will fly to Perth for the funeral as speculated.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Ack, I hate some parts of the Internet. If someone is making up a fake sighting to " play a trick" on Jake and Reese fans, it's sad.

I have been thinking about Heath today, and feeling sad, and that made me wish for more news of Jake. Almost like a craving. I know he doesn't exist to satisfy my needs, and I know he is entitled to his privacy.

But still, I don't know, I just think a new photo would be reassuring.

I'm glad this place is here. Anywhere else I typed this, people would think I was crazy. B.

    ReplyDelete
  47. JP: I think the misspelling was intentional, how clever, not.

The ice skating rink, the extras dressed as members of the Taliban, all info that has been posted, not insider information. Also, they made sure the extra didn't sound too bright by adding that Reese was there but she wasn't in any scenes, to make the sighting more "authentic", because you know how those dumb locals are in NM, mistaking Reese for Natalie! And wouldn't Natalie be in that scene with the kids skating ( I haven't read the book or seen the original so I may be mistaken).

Tsk, tsk. The ting is true or BS, it makes them more real. I have read numerous accounts of Brad and Angelina's tifts, hee.

On a serious note, It must be hard trying to finish up his movie right now, i'm so glad that Reese is there for him.

  49. Hi kids. Are we having fun this afternoon? Good.

Listen, remember how we talked about how this blog wouldn't participate in mudslinging directed at either other posters or other blogs? Yeah. Well I just deleted several comments doing that very thing. And you know, UV and I hate deleting. But more than that, we had mudslinging. SO CUT IT OUT.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hey deleted 2:52 - did you save a screenshot of that? Email it to me. Our email link is on the front page.

    Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Guess I missed the party. Not sorry about that! Let's keep it nice and friendly kids.

On a much better note, FL and I saw Brokeback on the big screen last night. The Coolidge Corner Theatre, one of those old-time movie houses, had a screening last night in honor of Heath.

There was a good crowd - not a full house, but close. It was so nice to be able to see it on the big screen and enjoy the scenery, both geographic and physical, in all its glory.

So may lines take on an added poignancy given Heath's death. Other ordinary lines become almost unbearable - I wanted to scream every time Old Man Twist said "family plot."

It's also great to laugh with other folks at the funny parts and cry at the sad ones. In all the times I've seen it, I've never heard sniffling like I did after the big confrontation scene.

There was even someone there who, it seemed, hadn't seen the movie before or read the story. Because s/he gasped when Lureen is telling Ennis how Jack died and Ennis is picturing Jack's beating in his head.

As always, I said a quiet prayer of thanks to Rodrigo Prieto for photographing Jake in the most loving way possible. And, as always, I marveled at Jake's performance even more than his beauty.

And I cried the minute I saw Heath get out of the truck in the opening scene. I didn't cry throughout, but I definitely cried at many points.

So many lines (never enough time/miss you so much I can hardly stand it, e.g.) make you wince. And the appreciation of Heath's performance is only heightened by the reality of his death.

So thanks to the Coolidge for showing BBM, to the audience for being quiet (except for the candy wrapper rustler) and to FL for being spontaneous and going with me.

And to Heath and Jake for being there.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Following along from UV's post above. A little more poignant for me since the Coolidge Corner was where I had first seen BBM on opening night December 9, 2005. I hadn't been back to that theatre since. Until last night. Full circle.

Last night was such a bittersweet film-going experience; I can only echo exactly how UV summarized it above.

  54. Well i've come to a decision...

Since most of my posts either get crapped on or deleted anyway and i've developed a bit of a inferiority complex about it. I have decided to extricate myself from the gyllenbabble community permanently.

It's funny, you know, I find myself agreeing with many people here about many things. But I honestly do not feel welcome here. I find the things I write are often misconstrued. Of the three posts I wrote today that were erased, only one was about another rival web site. The other two were explanations why that new sighting was false and probably an attempt at malice by people from you-know-where --- and it was.

I am not a child, and don't like being treated like one. I won't be visiting this site anymore either. I've just had enough of it all. Since banning me seems to be the rule of the day, I will do everyone a favor and just leave voluntarily.

    This time it's for real.

    Good luck with everything.

    Good-bye.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Sorry you feel unwelcome, JP. But if you find your posts getting deleted, it's because you keep insulting other sites and other people. You are welcome to come back and chat anytime, as long as you leave the mudslinging elsewhere.

But still, I don't know, I just think a new photo would be reassuring.

Yeah, it would be nice to know where Jake is and how he's doing. A photo wouldn't hurt either. And rest assured, we won't think you're crazy, B! We're right there with you.
